Position Summary
ECEAP is a state-funded program that has been serving vulnerable children and families for more than a quarter of a century. We serve people experiencing homelessness, poverty, involvement in the foster system or child protective system, or any other family stressors that qualifying families may be experiencing. ECEAP classrooms do not expel or exclude children due to behavioral issues, disabilities, or special needs of any kind. We recognize instead that individualizing for the specific needs of every child in a nurturing and supportive environment is how we best help all children reach kindergarten healthy and ready to learn. Site staff will have a responsibility to support the needs of all children in their classrooms.
The Opportunity: Skagit Valley College (SVC) Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program (ECEAP) is accepting applications on a continuous basis for ECEAP Substitutes Classroom Support. This role involves preparing and serving meals and snacks, maintaining records to ensure compliance with CACFP requirements for children ages 0-5, and cleaning up afterward. The position also includes performing routine duties to maintain a clean and safe classroom and facility. Additionally, the role supports classroom activities by assisting with set-up, clean-up, mealtimes, and organizing materials.
This is a part-time, hourly position, typically working 15 or fewer hours per week during the period of Monday through Friday within business hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work days and hours may vary based on the needs of the program. Temporary positions may only work 1050 hours or 12 consecutive months from the date of hire, whichever comes first (WAC 357-04-045) The exact schedule will be worked out with the candidate selected for hire.
This position is grant-funded. The extension of the position is dependent on the continuation of funding.

Duties and Responsibilities
Food Service Duties

• Prepare food for breakfast and snacks, and prepare and/or serve lunch at the Centers;
• Follow appropriate food handling practices using disposable gloves, keeping foods at the proper temperature, and recording food temperatures as requested;
• Follow a cycle menu assuring adequate food portions are available for the number of and ages of children enrolled in the program;
• Keep accurate records of the daily attendance and CACFP-eligible meals served;
• Provide food substitutions as appropriate for special dietary needs;
• Clean up after breakfast and lunch, utilizing proper dishwashing methods to ensure the sanitation of dishes;
• Sanitize tables where children eat, food preparation areas, and food transportation equipment;
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and appliances;
• May assist in the supervision of children upon arrival/departure, on the playground, and in the classroom and/or bathrooms;
• May assist children in modeling family-style eating routines;
• May assist children in the development of self-help skills;
• Maintain confidentiality per ECEAP policies and procedures.

Custodial Duties

• Clean and sanitize classroom, including high and low dusting, wiping and disinfecting tables, cupboards, and countertops, sweeping, mopping, and/or vacuuming floors, and cleaning/sanitizing restrooms;
• Empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycling containers;
• Set up, take down, and adjust equipment such as paint easels, folding chairs, and tables (including leg height) as needed for meetings and classroom use;
• Assist teaching staff with clean up of activities from the classroom;
• Assist teaching staff with sanitizing and/or cleaning toys and materials from the classroom;
• May assist staff with set-up, preparation, and clean-up of food service in the Center's kitchen;
• This may include washing, drying, folding, and putting away laundry;
• Maintain confidentiality per ECEAP policies and procedures.

Classroom Duties
Working under the direction of the Lead Teacher:

• Assist with set-up, clean-up, and presentation of classroom and outdoor activities;
• Organize materials needed for classroom activities;
• Store and maintain educational materials and equipment;
• Assist in serving and cleaning up after snacks and lunches;
• Assist with child guidance during meal times;
• Assist with maintaining enrollment and nutrition records;
• Monitor children during free time, field trips, and transition periods;
• Model appropriate behavior for children;
• Use developmentally appropriate communication skills;
• Contribute to maintaining a healthy and safe classroom environment;
• Maintain confidentiality per ECEAP Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

• High school completion, GED, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in food preparation;
• Experience in an early learning setting;
• Custodial experience;
• Experience in an early learning setting;
• Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or one (1) year of experience in an early learning setting.

• Rate of pay is $17.13 per hour for all positions.

Conditions of Employment
