Job description

Field Data Collector

Tetra Tech is looking to hire temporary, on-call field data collectors to assist with waste evaluation (sorting) studies locally in Denver, CO. This field work will take place this summer with tentative field dates of 8/10/26 - 8/21/26 with opportunities for future field work. The position offers opportunities to work within a large international firm on many exciting projects with an environmental focus.

The pay scale for this position is $24-$28 an hour, based on qualifications and experience. Benefits offered include medical and a 401(k). The deadline to apply is 07/16/2026.

Your Role:
  • Collect trash and compost samples from commercial and multi-family residential buildings and record the information on a tablet
  • Load collected waste samples into box truck and transport to designated sorting location
  • Sort waste into material categories, weigh each category, and record data into a tablet for each sample
  • Set up, tear down, and cleanup of sorting area, including tables, scales, canopies, and other sorting equipment
Qualifications:
  • Urban Planning, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related degree from a 4-year university
  • Ability to walk for multiple hours and work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to exercise flexibility, good judgment, and discretion
  • Ability to lift heavy items
  • Ability to operate a tablet
  • Valid driver's license
  • Outgoing and positive communicator
  • Experience specific to waste reduction and recycling is a plus
  • Ability and willingness to perform visual inspections and characterization of trash
  • Experience with solid waste planning including waste characterization, landfill diversion planning, and food waste prevention programs is a plus
