DEPARTMENT: Administration

UNIT: Tacoma Citadel Corps

POSITION TITLE: Finance Clerk / Office Aide

REPORTS TO: Business Operations Manager

STATUS: Temporary, Part Time; Non-Exempt 20 hrs/week (M-W-F)

This is a temporary position starting in June 2026 and working approximately through December 31, 2026, with the end date subject to change based on program needs.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The temporary Finance Clerk / Office Aide is responsible for the fiscal operations of The Salvation Army Tacoma Citadel Corps and Social Services. The Finance Clerk / Office Aide works with the Business Operations Manager and Corps Officers to ensure that all accounts payable and financial donations are recorded and processed. During the Christmas season, they also ensure that Red Kettle donations are counted and deposited, per policy.

ESSENTIAL FINANCE CLERK / OFFICE AIDE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and process deposits in accordance with Salvation Army policies and banking procedures, including donations, credit card receipts, church tithes and offerings, facility rentals, mail donations and other receipts
  • Process accounts payable transactions, including invoices, statement accounts, and related payment documentation.
  • Generate invoices, as needed, for outside agencies.
  • Participate in bi-weekly Grants & Compliance meetings and assist with related administrative tasks.
  • Conduct business banking and post office activities as needed.
  • Provide front desk coverage when needed, including answering phones, greeting visitors, and directing inquiries.
  • Oversee Christmas Kettle counting volunteers and related cash-handling procedures.
  • Maintains accurate records of giftcard inventory, distribution and reconciliation, including seasonal Christmas assistance programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial, personnel, donor, participant, and organizational information.
  • Treat all staff members, volunteers, and residents with respect and dignity, maintaining appropriate personal boundaries at all times, per TSA’s Standard of Ethics.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and professional work environment.
  • All other duties assigned by the Corps Officers and Business Operations Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of two years of experience in finance / professional office work.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines, including passing a TSA background check.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to quickly learn and apply new information and skills.

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (email)
  • Ability to learn Salvation Army accounting software (Finance Web, Shelby etc.)
  • Data Entry – able to learn skills required work on in Wellsky/HMIS data systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to operate telephone
  • Ability to operate desktop or laptop computer
  • Ability to understand written information.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (emptying trash, moving boxes, etc.)
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License

Work Schedule / Location: This position is located at The Salvation Army Tacoma Corps in Tacoma, Washington. The schedule is based on program needs.
