Job description

About the Team:

The Sensors Division at STR focuses on technology development for advanced sensor systems and platforms in support of national security requirements. Our particular focus areas include airborne/spaceborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging, and EO/IR sensing. To support these missions, the Division's efforts span multiple technical areas, including RF analog/digital hardware, acoustic hardware, signal processing algorithms, machine learning algorithms, systems analysis, and real-time embedded processor implementation.

The Electronic Warfare and Novel Capabilities Group (EWNC) develops and delivers advanced signal processing algorithms and prototype systems for next-generation radar and electronic warfare technologies.

EWNC fosters a culture of innovation and collaboration. We investigate cutting edge technologies and interface with engineers across sectors and divisions at STR and researchers at academic institutions and industry partners to develop practical and effective solutions to RF sensing and counter-sensing challenges. If you're seeking an opportunity to apply your deep technical knowledge and creativity to make a lasting impact, we invite you to join us.

The Role:

As a Lead Program Manager (PM) in the EWNC group, we are looking for a leader who is passionate about collaborative problem solving and working on the hardest national security problems. The PM will support other PMs managing a portfolio of research and development programs, specifically focused on delivering novel capabilities to a motivated customer. This work includes managing all program phases, from marketing to proposal development, from contract initiation to execution, and from program close-out to transition. The PM will also support business operations across the portfolio to enable successful execution.  The PM will likely play critical roles in supporting multiple efforts in Sensors and potentially in other Divisions at STR as a Program Manager and/or Deputy Program Manager.

This role will take advantage of STR's flexible, hybrid environment - when the work does not require use of STR's facilities, you are welcome to work remotely.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage teams of scientists, engineers, and technicians across broad areas of expertise
  • Work with the principal investigator, technical staff, subcontractors, and support personnel to identify and address risks and issues
  • Support timely, successful deliveries of products to the customer and routinely collaborate across multi-disciplined teams to enable STR technical leads and other key stakeholders
  • Track program schedules and milestones, coordinating with the STR business operations teams, communicating with our customers, and tracking program performance and risk
  • Gather, evaluate, and synthesize data from multiple sources, such as project reports, project staff, and customer feedback to understand and communicate status and to identify trends
  • Work with our government customers and multi-contractor technical teams to identify mission requirements and prioritize technical development
  • Interact with external program customers and internal company leadership
  • Achieve cost, schedule, and customer objectives on advanced technology programs
  • Work in a fast-paced environment to enable successful contract execution
  • Build strong customer relationships and establish open lines of communication

Who You Are:

  • Program Management experience, Defense experience, or similar background with the S&T community and programs of record
  • Experience in managing technical projects, developing tasks/sub-tasks, identifying & tracking program risk
  • Motivated collaborator who's comfortable communicating to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • History of interacting with decision-makers and customers to translate mission needs into end-to-end analytical solutions
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance up to TS/SCI, for which U.S citizenship is needed by the U.S government

Even Better:

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
  • Prior experience in a leadership role of a technical program for the Department of Defense
  • Experience working and collaborating on multi-disciplinary teams, including leading technical teams and mentoring less experienced staff
  • Knowledge of software development best practices and tools
  • Experience spanning all project phases, from ideation to technology research and product development
  • Working knowledge of DoD mission and acquisition processes
  • Technical breadth and a demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, technically diverse programs and teams
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and eager to engage in technical marketing and business development
