The Royal Caribbean Group's Decarbonization Technology team has an exciting career opportunity for a full Senior Director, Decarbonization Newbuild reporting to Senior Director, Decarbonization Newbuild.
Position Summary
The Senior Engineer, Decarbonization Technology supports the Group's decarbonization Technology Development Process and early-stage implementation, with a specific focus on lower-maturity technologies within the technology funnel. As a key member of the Technology Decarbonization Team, this role works in close cooperation with technology suppliers, internal marine operations, newbuild projects, and other internal stakeholders.
This role requires a strong engineering background, analytical rigor, and the ability to translate technical research and operational data into structured insights and recommendations that inform technology development decisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Technology development & implementation support
  • Owns defined components of the development and implementation of new decarbonization technologies in alignment with the Group's decarbonization technology strategy.
  • Conducts independent research to analyze operational data and external insights, translating findings into actionable recommendations that inform technology development and guide departmental and corporate leadership.
  1. Techno-economic analysis & business case support
  • Develops techno-economic assessments, risk analyses, and business-case inputs for emerging decarbonization technologies.
  • Supports evaluation of investment cases related to new technologies, including cost, risk, readiness, and deployment considerations.
  1. Performance tracking & learning loops
  • Tracks utilization, effectiveness, and performance of piloted or deployed technologies.
  • Provides structured feedback and insights to support continuous improvement and inform next-stage technology decisions.
  1. Program & project support
  • Leads defined technology scopes and technical workstreams within special projects, coordinating cross-functional contributors to progress development, validation, and deployment activities.
  • Works alongside other departments to support successful piloting, validation, and early adoption of decarbonization technologies.
  1. Stakeholder & partner collaboration
  • Acts as an active contributor to partnerships with shipyards, technology providers, research institutions, and other external collaborators.
  • Coordinates technical inputs and exchanges with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on assumptions, data, and outcomes.
  1. Communication & decision support
  • Prepares comprehensive technical reports, analyses, and presentation materials that serve as inputs for executive and Board-level briefings.
  • Translates and communicates complex technical findings non-technical stakeholders.

Financial & Quantitative Support
  • Management of budgets for assigned consultant or technology development projects, including spend tracking and financial inputs.
  • Maintains understanding of accounting rules for capital activities.

Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Marine Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Master's degree in a related or complementary field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in marine engineering, technology development, or related technical roles.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of employees and management in a multi-cultural environment, with business acumen and support for business decision-making.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to contribute to cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills; able to provide quality work with minimal direction and to comprehend and interpret complex data sets and information sources.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work with structured guidance and increasing independence.
  • Superior writing and presentation skills; able to translate complex technical topics into clear, accessible insights.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical and strategic information in a manner that is accessible to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency with engineering and data analysis tools (CAD; Python a plus).
