Job Description

Proactively seeks out strategic cloud cost optimization opportunities with senior business unit and technology leaders. Provides advice, assistance, and leadership in areas associated with cloud financial planning, procurement, provisioning, delivery, management, maintenance, and effective business use of cloud resources and services for a business area. Analyzes cloud operations and business processes through a FinOps lens; elicits, analyzes, and documents cloud financial management requirements; identifies and evaluates alternative solutions, assesses feasibility, and recommends approaches that optimize cloud spend, usage, and value. 

Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with Cloud teams, engineers, and architects to understand specific cloud use cases, processes, business drivers, and cloud strategy across multiple business units; identifies and communicates resulting needs and opportunities for FinOps and cloud cost management practices. 
  • Identifies current and emerging business needs related to cloud usage, cost, and optimization; analyzes cloud spend and consumption across AbbVie to identify trends, savings opportunities, and governance practices; creates visuals to support cloud strategy; and evaluates alternative solutions using best practices and FinOps principles. 
  • Partners with Finance, Cloud, and Technology stakeholders to establish and improve cloud financial management processes, including budgeting, forecasting, chargeback/showback, cost allocation, and spend transparency. 
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. 
  • Develops and maintains collaborative business relationships with BMOs, BTOs, engineers, architects, Finance, and cloud end users to support cloud initiatives and ensure alignment with strategic targets.
  • Serves as a communication bridge across stakeholder groups by sharing cloud spend outcomes, keeping leaders informed of spending issues and emerging initiatives, and helping resolve conflicts to drive informed decision-making. 
  • Accountable for the accuracy of cloud spend data and forecasts, FinOps process improvements, and the technical solution to business needs, as well as the information upon which business justification and prioritization decisions are made. Also accountable for communicating the business need and drivers to development groups to ensure the implementation phase can fulfill the business need. 
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with 7 years' experience in Finance, Economic, or Information Technology; Master's degree with 6 years' experience; PhD with 2 years' experience.
  • Experience with financial forecasting, budgeting, allocation, and optimization practices in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Experience with data analytics and statistical analytics.
  • Understanding of cloud services, cloud consumption models, and the financial drivers that influence cloud spend. (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and translate findings into clear business recommendations, dashboards, and executive-level presentations.
  • Exercises latitude in the approach to problem solving.
  • Determines and develops approach and solutions to problems independently.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with any of the following: Jira, MS Excel, Power BI and SAP R2R

Preferred:

  • FinOps certification or demonstrated experience in FinOps, cloud financial management, or cloud economics highly preferred.
  • Cloud cost management highly preferred
