Job description

The Technical Writer/Editor will complete changes to Technical Orders for Air Force Programs. Interface with TOMA, Technical Content Manager, Illustrators and QC. This position will provide technical writing and editing skills to materials concerning aircraft and commodity technical manuals and Time Compliance Technical orders (TCTOs) in compliance with TMCR and military specifications. This position is responsible for writing, reviewing, editing, and finalizing all needed materials.

Writer:

  • Organize and write aircraft and commodity technical manuals and TCTOs in compliance with TMCR and military specifications.
  • Technical writing supports specific program CSTO changes and revisions from TCM-approved source data packages.
  • The Contractor shall perform technical writing in accordance with applicable TMSS style and format standards.

Editor:

  • Technical editing supports IAF CSTO changes and revisions from TCM-approved source data packages.
  • Perform technical editing in accordance with applicable TMSS style and format standards.
  • Review and edit documents to ensure conformance with English language and technical writing standards.
  • Review and edit draft documents to ensure conformance with applicable standards and agency guidance.
  • Protect and control proprietary documents and processes.
  • Always maintain all safety and security measures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Associate degree required in Journalism, Communication, or related degree program. Will accept minimum of four (4) years of matching experience in exchange for degree.

Experience

  • Experience in writing and editing technical manuals preferred

License, Cert or Registration

  • Security Clearance preferred

Special knowledge, skills, & abilities

  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with all types of manuals such as Framemaker, S1000D, tagged data, SGML, XML structured and unstructured content, Illustrated parts breakdowns (IPBs), job guides, flight manuals, checklists, et al preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and work with cross-functional teams in a multinational company
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; a team player; a critical thinker
  • High proficiency in both written and verbal American English
  • Strong editing skills
