What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Senior Product Owner at Evolent Health, you will drive the strategy, design, and delivery of innovative technology solutions specifically focused on Utilization Management (UM) and prior authorization applications, as well as provider portal capabilities within the healthcare technology domain. You will lead agile teams, collaborate across functions, and ensure our products meet regulatory and market needs from ideation through launch.

Key Responsibilities

Product Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead one or more agile development teams as the primary Product Owner for UM/prior authorization and provider portal applications, setting clear priorities and aligning work with business objectives.

  • Define and communicate product vision, strategy, and roadmap for UM and provider portal solutions in partnership with Product Managers and executive stakeholders.

  • Translate strategic goals into actionable product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria, leveraging data and stakeholder feedback from clinical, operational, and compliance teams.

  • Champion product discovery, prioritization frameworks, and outcome measurement to maximize business impact in UM and provider portal domains.

Technical Expertise & Delivery

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for UM/prior authorization workflows, provider portal functionality, and healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR).

  • Oversee creation and maintenance of product documentation, including release notes, user guides, and training materials for UM and provider portal applications.

  • Own the user acceptance testing process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Participate in production support processes, including issue reproduction, gap analysis, and resolution for UM and provider portal products.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Build strong relationships with clinical operations, provider relations, and engineering teams to ensure UM and portal solutions meet end-user needs.

  • Surface project risks, communicate changes to delivery timelines, and manage stakeholder expectations across healthcare technology initiatives.

  • Synthesize complex technical concepts for executive audiences and facilitate decision-making in steering committees.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement across teams.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify and champion initiatives to improve efficiency, scalability, and compliance in UM and provider portal workflows.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to inform product strategy.

  • Mentor and coach junior product team members, supporting their professional growth.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare technology, with a focus on Utilization Management, prior authorization, or provider portal solutions.

  • Proven track record of leading agile teams and delivering successful UM or provider-facing products.

  • Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to completion.

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare data formats (eligibility, claims, authorizations) and compliance standards.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Visio).

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a technical or related field.

  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) and payer/provider workflows.

  • Proficiency with SQL, Python, or equivalent programming languages.

  • Experience writing product documentation (release notes, user guides).

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban).

  • Experience using JIRA and Confluence.

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certification.

Technical Requirements:

The expected base salary/wage range for this position is $115,000 - 125,000. As part of our total compensation package, Evolent is proud to offer comprehensive benefits (including health insurance benefits) to qualifying employees. All compensation determinations are based on the skills and experience required for the position and commensurate with experience of selected individuals, which may vary above and below the stated amounts.
