The Assistant Lead supports daily technical operations for the Dolly Parton Experience by providing leadership and hands-on expertise across lighting, audio, and video systems spanning multiple facilities. This role guides technicians in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing show-critical systems while helping ensure operational continuity and performance excellence. The Assistant Lead also supports oversight of A/V control systems software to maintain reliability and consistency. Working in guest-facing environments, the Assistant Lead models professionalism, theater-style etiquette, and strong attention to detail. This position assists with task prioritization, team support, and development, while reinforcing quality and safety standards. This role is essential in delivering seamless show operations and maintaining the high-quality guest experience expected at Dollywood Parks & Resorts.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will be able to display and live out Lead with Love qualities, strongly rooted in the Dollywood Company culture, by being patient, kind, trusting, unselfish, truthful, forgiving, dedicated and accountable.
Summary of Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced technician duties while serving as a working leader, making informed, situational decisions to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and aligned with Dollywood Parks and Resorts Entertainment standards
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to technicians, assisting with task prioritization, troubleshooting strategy, and workflow coordination
  • Work with themed indoor and outdoor lighting, sound, atmospheric effects, video, and microclimate systems across multiple facilities
  • Lead and support troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of entertainment lighting control systems, fixtures (static and moving), professional audio systems, video projection systems, and DMX infrastructure
  • Assist in maintaining and optimizing entertainment systems infrastructure to ensure consistency, reliability, and performance
  • Support setup, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of networking infrastructure and A/V control systems Identify and escalate line voltage or infrastructure issues, submitting repair requests and coordinating follow-through as needed
  • Share technical knowledge, best practices, and training support to develop team capability and performance
  • Model professional appearance, theater-style etiquette, and guest-first behavior while working in public-facing environments
  • Assist leadership in coordinating cross-functional support within the Entertainment Division as needed
  • Help ensure equipment and systems meet all safety standards and are maintained in safe working condition
  • Support the maintenance of clean, organized, and safe workspaces across multiple locations
  • Operate and oversee the safe use of company vehicles (cars, vans, trucks) for personnel and material transport
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all sensitive information related to Dolly Parton, Dollywood, and HFE operations

Education and Experience Required
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High School diploma required
  • Demonstrated experience with entertainment and/or architectural lighting systems and environments
  • Strong knowledge of lighting control infrastructure and A/V control systems
  • Experience with installation, operation, and repair of modern moving lighting fixtures preferred
  • Experience with video projection and video mapping strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Christie laser projection systems preferred
  • Experience with professional lighting and audio control systems preferred
  • Working knowledge of electricity and basic electrical troubleshooting preferred
  • Experience with ETC systems (Paradigm, Mosaic) preferred
  • Familiarity with industry software such as VectorWorks, QLab, QSys, and Dante preferred
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or guide others in a technical environment preferred
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles according to company policy. Must have valid driver's license, proof of auto liability insurance and acceptable motor vehicle driving record

Physical Requirements | Environmental Conditions
  • Lifting and Carrying: Position may require occasional to frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs utilizing company's safety guidelines for safe lifting
  • Mobility: Position may require intermittent to prolonged sitting, standing and/or walking for duration of shift, up to 16 hours
  • Repetitive Movements: This position may require performing repetitive movements and tasks throughout the shift, including repeated use of hands, arms or other body parts as part of typical job functions
  • Environmental Conditions: This position requires the ability to perform work tasks in varying weather conditions to include extreme cold and heat
