Job description

Our client, a growing, well-established mid-sized company, is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead its accounting function. This is a highly visible role that will partner closely with senior leadership and play an important part in strengthening processes, reporting, and financial operations as the company continues to grow.

The ideal candidate is a strong technical accountant who also enjoys being close to the business. This person will oversee the day-to-day accounting function while providing leadership, improving processes, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and month-end close
  • Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Own the month-end and year-end close process, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning
  • Support annual audit and tax processes, coordinating with outside auditors and advisors as needed
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve reporting, and enhance the use of systems and technology
  • Develop and mentor accounting team members while building scalable processes for the future
  • Serve as a key business partner to leaders across operations, finance, and executive management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and close processes
  • Experience working in a mid-sized company or similarly hands-on environment
  • Prior experience managing and developing accounting staff
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable balancing strategic priorities with day-to-day execution

This is an excellent opportunity for a thoughtful, collaborative accounting leader who wants to have real impact within a growing organization.
