NOW CFO | Controller Consultant
Sacramento, CA
$120,000 to $150,000 Base Salary DOE
NOW CFO is seeking an experienced Controller Consultant to join our Sacramento team. This full time role is ideal for a hands on accounting leader who can step into client environments, strengthen financial operations, improve reporting, and provide both strategic guidance and day to day accounting leadership.
Candidates must have construction accounting experience, including exposure to areas such as job costing, project accounting, WIP reporting, or revenue recognition. Experience across additional industries is strongly preferred, as this role will support multiple clients throughout the Sacramento market.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Controller level resource for multiple client organizations
  • Lead month end and year end close, general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Support construction accounting functions including job costing, project accounting, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition
  • Oversee and improve AP, AR, payroll, billing, inventory, and cost accounting processes as needed
  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial workflows
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
  • Partner with business owners and executives to identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency
  • Prepare financial reporting for leadership teams, lenders, investors, boards, and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate with auditors, tax professionals, banking partners, and other external advisors
  • Support ERP implementations, system conversions, and accounting process improvements
  • Provide hands on accounting support while maintaining a strategic Controller level perspective
Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior accounting leader
  • Construction industry accounting experience required
  • Experience with job costing, project accounting, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, or similar construction accounting functions
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and full cycle accounting
  • Experience across multiple industries strongly preferred
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis skills
  • Ability to quickly understand new businesses, systems, and accounting environments
  • Comfortable working directly with business owners, executives, and accounting teams
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Hands on leadership style with the ability to work both strategically and in the details
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Public accounting experience is a plus
  • ERP implementation or system conversion experience is highly valued
