CONTROLLER

CPA Required | Executive Leadership Opportunity

Location: San Diego, CA

Reports To: Fractional CFO

Salary: $150,000–$180,000, depending on experience

Schedule: Full Time, Exempt | Hybrid, with in office collaboration Tuesday through Thursday

About SportRx

At SportRx, we are obsessed with helping people see better while doing what they love. As a leader in prescription sports eyewear, we serve customers across the country through a highly integrated e-commerce and operational platform.

SportRx is a mature, profitable, and growing company with a clear vision and roadmap for the future. We continue to invest in our people, technology, and operations as we build the next chapter of our business.

The Role

We are looking for an exceptional CPA who wants more than a traditional Controller role.

You will work directly with our CEO and Fractional CFO while partnering with leaders across every department. This is a highly visible, hands on role that combines technical accounting excellence with strategic thinking and the opportunity to help build the future of SportRx, not simply report on its past.

This position begins as our Controller, but we are intentionally looking for someone with the potential to grow into increasingly senior finance leadership as the company evolves. Future advancement is earned, not guaranteed, but we view this as a long term investment in someone who can become an integral member of our executive leadership team.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close while preparing timely, accurate financial statements and executive reporting.
  • Own the general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, fixed assets, and cash management.
  • Develop and continuously improve accounting policies, internal controls, and scalable financial processes.
  • Lead annual audits, tax, compliance, and banking relationships.
  • Maximize the capabilities of NetSuite through improved reporting, automation, and data integrity.
  • Partner with the CEO and Fractional CFO on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, financial modeling, and strategic initiatives.
  • Build the accounting function by developing scalable processes and recruiting, mentoring, and leading the team as the company grows.
  • Partner cross functionally with leaders throughout the business to improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and decision making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, reduce risk, and strengthen the financial foundation of the business.

What Success Looks Like

During your first year, you will:

  • Become the trusted owner of our accounting function.
  • Improve financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting processes.
  • Build strong partnerships across the business and become a trusted advisor to leadership.
  • Help build the finance organization that will support SportRx's next stage of growth.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Active CPA license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including accounting leadership responsibilities.
  • Hands on leadership style with the willingness to both lead and execute.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with NetSuite or another modern ERP system.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Exceptional integrity, professionalism, judgment, analytical ability, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in e-commerce, retail, inventory based, distribution, manufacturing, or consumer products.
  • Experience leading audits and working directly with outside CPA firms.
  • Experience improving systems, automating processes, and building accounting teams.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary of $150,000–$180,000 depending on experience, plus performance bonus eligibility, comprehensive benefits, a retirement plan, paid time off, and professional development support, including CPA continuing education reimbursement.

Why SportRx?

At SportRx, we believe work should be meaningful, challenging, and fun. We're a passionate group of people who genuinely enjoy working together, and we're building a workplace where great people can do their best work.

  • A collaborative, low ego team that values Service, Integrity, Positivity, Innovation, and Hard Work.
  • Direct partnership with the CEO and Fractional CFO and meaningful visibility across the business.
  • Hybrid work environment with in office collaboration Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Competitive benefits, retirement support, paid time off, and real work life balance.
  • Dog friendly office with a fully stocked kitchen, shared meals, great coffee, and team events.
  • Private onsite gym with showers.
  • Employee discounts on eyewear for you and your family.
  • Volunteer opportunities, book clubs, celebrations, and the occasional ping pong or Mario Kart tournament.
  • A profitable, growing company where your expertise and ideas can make a real impact.

Ready to Apply?

If you're a hands on CPA who wants to own the accounting function, advise senior leadership, and help build the financial foundation for SportRx's next stage of growth, we'd love to hear from you.
