Job description

Apogee has an exciting new opportunity for a Journeymen Test Engineer to support the Space Force customer.

As a Test Engineer on our Space Force team, you’ll use your experience to work with developers and engineers to evaluate software developed for national defense. You’ll create test plans with test cases based on user stories and requirements. Using automated and manual processes, you’ll generate data and implement the test cases to observe how the software performs, then document the results and communicate defects to the development team so they can start improving the tool. 

This is a full-time position at Peterson SFB, in Colorado Springs.


  • Develop comprehensive test plans and detailed test cases from user stories and system requirements; perform requirements analysis, synthesis, and maintain bidirectional traceability including test methods and success criteria.
  • Design, build, and maintain automated test scripts, custom test harnesses, and data-generation tools using Python, Cypress, or similar frameworks; integrate automated tests into CI/CD workflows.
  • Execute manual and automated developmental and operational test events, collect and analyze test data, and evaluate functionality, reliability, performance, and user experience against acceptance criteria.
  • Identify, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps and severity assessments; work closely with developers to prioritize fixes and verify resolution through retesting.
  • Use MBSE artifacts (Cameo, Rhapsody, SysML models) to align test coverage with system design and configurations; ensure tests reflect system changes and operational impacts while adhering to DoD Instructions 5000.87 and 5000.89.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to improve test processes, maintain test documentation and reports, and contribute proactive recommendations to increase software quality and sustainment.

Minimum Experience:

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen 
Clearance: Must have a minimum of a Secret clearance at time of application.
Education: Bachelor's degree
Years of Experience: 3+ years of experience in developmental testing

Additional Experience:

  • Experience performing requirements analysis, synthesis, and traceability for shall statement and supplemental fields evaluation, including test method and success criteria
  • Experience architecting complex systems in Model-Based Systems Engineering, including CAMEO or Rhapsody
  • Knowledge of DoD Instructions 5000.87 and 5000.89
  • Ability to develop and execute detailed test procedures for Developmental and Operational Test Events
  • Ability to build automated test scripts and custom harnesses using a tool such as a Python or Cypress

Certifications: CompTIA Sec +

  • Experience with the Atlassian Suite, including Confluence or Jira
  • Experience with radar system operations or radar modeling
  • Experience with Docker or Kubernetes 
  • Experience interfacing with formal government test organizations, including 17TES or JITC
  • Knowledge of software deployment and troubleshooting processes in DevSecOps pipelines, including Platform 1 or DAFCw
  • Ability to run and evaluate complex simulation frameworks
