About the role:

The Swiss Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining CNC Swiss-style lathes to manufacture precision components used in medical devices. This role ensures parts are produced in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and production schedules while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining a safe work environment.

We offer market competitive compensation. Potential salary range for this role is $23 $37 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Work Model: Monday – Friday – 2nd shift (2:00pm -10:00pm)

What you’ll do:

  • Follow all manufacturing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) as defined by Viant Medical’s practices, policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Set up and operate CNC Swiss-style lathes to manufacture complex, high-precision medical device components.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Select and install tooling, fixtures, and machine accessories required for production.
  • Adjust machine offsets and make program edits to maintain dimensional accuracy and optimize performance.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, and vision systems.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and scrap.
  • Monitor machine performance and production output to achieve quality, efficiency, and delivery objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ISO 13485 requirements, and company quality procedures.
  • Complete production documentation accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to support new product introductions and process improvements.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and maintain equipment in clean and safe operating condition.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Performs other duties as needed

Requirements

Knowledge/Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical degree, apprenticeship, or vocational training in machining or manufacturing technology preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating and setting up CNC Swiss lathes in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Medical device, aerospace, or highly regulated manufacturing experience preferred.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of CNC Swiss machining principles and processes.
  • Experience with Star, Citizen, Tsugami, Tornos, or similar Swiss machines preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of G-code programming and machine setup.
  • Experience using precision measurement instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform light, non-strenuous administrative activities on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity required for machine setup, tooling changes, and inspection activities.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machine oils, and moving equipment.
