Location: HO-CHUNK HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY
Department: Ho-Chunk Housing and Community Development Agency
Summary:
This position is with our partner business Ho-Chunk Housing and Community Development Agency
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Supportive Housing Director, the Tenant Support Specialist will maintain a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment during first, second, third, and weekend shifts. This front-line roles ensures continuous monitoring of facility access, residential units, and grounds while engaging tenants, visitors, and staff with professionalism, empathy, and cultural humility. Supports tenant well-being through person-centered communication, timely responses to emergencies, and accurate documentation of shift activities. Cross-trained to assist with intake/front desk duties, and participates in facility events, light housekeeping, and safety protocols. Requires a high level of professionalism, empathy, and strict adherence to confidentiality while upholding supportive housing principles, such a harm reduction and the housing-first philosophy, contributing toa stable and respectful community environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Experience in supportive housing, shelter, caregiving, or community-based services preferred.
3. Willingness to complete training in trauma-informed care, crisis response, de-escalation, and cultural humility.
4. Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies, tenant conflicts, or other urgent situations.
5. Comfortable working overnight, weekends, and holiday shifts with minimal supervision.
6. Clear and respectful communication skills, with the ability to document shift activities and incidents accurately.
7. Basic computer literacy, including email use, online documentation, and digital forms.
8. Ability to maintain professional boundaries while supporting tenants in a respectful, person-centered manner.
9. Must promote a healthy, non-abusive lifestyle and commitment to non-violence.
10. Reliable, punctual, and aligned with the mission and values of supportive housing (e.g. dignity, harm reduction, housing-first).
11. Valid driver's license preferred but not required.
12. Physically able to walk the facility and grounds, remain alert during shifts, and perform light cleaning or physical tasks as needed.
13. Preferences will be provided to Native Americans and Veterans.
