Production Supervisor Production Supervisor
Position Overview
The Production Supervisor oversees day-to-day production activities in a food manufacturing plant to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality output. This role leads production teams, enforces food safety and regulatory standards, drives continuous improvement, and coordinates with cross-functional departments to meet production targets, cost goals and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily production operations, including scheduling, staffing and shift coordination to meet production plans and deadlines.
  • Monitor product quality and ensure compliance with food safety programs (GMP, HACCP, SQF/BRC) and internal SOPs.
  • Train, mentor and evaluate production staff; enforce performance standards, safety rules and proper handling procedures.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Supply Chain to troubleshoot production issues, resolve defects and minimize downtime.
  • Implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to optimize throughput, reduce waste and lower costs.
  • Maintain accurate production records, prepare shift reports and analyze KPIs (yield, efficiency, downtime, scrap) to drive corrective actions.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with OSHA and plant safety policies; lead safety meetings and incident investigations.
  • Manage inventory of packaging and consumables on the production floor and coordinate timely material replenishment.
  • Oversee equipment set-ups, changeovers and basic preventative maintenance coordination with maintenance teams.
  • Support new product introductions and process documentation updates, including standard work and training materials.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelors degree in Food Science, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on production experience in a food or manufacturing environment with at least 12 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of food industry practices, including GMP, HACCP, and food safety regulations; familiarity with SQF or BRC is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with production planning, process optimization, and lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate teams, resolve conflicts and drive results in a fast-paced plant setting.
  • Proficient with production tracking systems and basic computer applications (MS Office); experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
  • Ability to analyze production metrics and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including shift work and overtime as needed; ability to stand and move on the production floor for extended periods.
  • Certifications such as HACCP, ServSafe, Forklift Operator, or Lean/Six Sigma are advantageous.
