Registered Nurse (RN) – Summer School Program (K–8)

Location: Springfield, MA
Assignment Type: Contract
Start Date: July 1, 2026
Contract Length: 5 Weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM – 1:15 PM
Hours: 27.5 hours/week
Compensation: Up to $50/hr based on experience

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to support a K–8 summer school program. The General School Nurse will provide comprehensive health services to students across multiple grade levels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

This role requires strong clinical judgment, flexibility, and the ability to address a wide variety of student health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily nursing care and health support to students
  • Manage chronic health conditions, including:
    • Diabetes care
    • Seizure management and protocol implementation
  • Administer medications in accordance with physician orders and school policies
  • Respond to routine health concerns, including:
    • Minor injuries (bumps, bruises)
    • Bug bites
    • Heat-related illnesses and dehydration
  • Deliver first aid and emergency response as needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely health documentation
  • Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, and school staff
  • Collaborate with program staff and related service providers
  • Promote student wellness and reinforce health and safety practices
  • Support overall health office operations
Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific)
  • Previous school nursing or pediatric experience preferred
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Caseload is to be determined; candidates should be comfortable working with a diverse student population

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred 
  • School Nurse Certification as required by state or contract
  • One year of school nursing, public health or pediatric experience, preferred  
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice  
  • Current CPR if applicable 
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable  
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)  
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements  
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
