Job description

Internship Scope
The Chattanooga Tourism Co. is hiring a Fall marketing intern to work with the content marketing team to promote Chattanooga as a top destination.
This position is a perfect foray into the world of marketing and tourism. Ideal candidates would have a love for Chattanooga, creative mind, outgoing social presence, and a desire to learn more about digital media within a destination marketing organization. This internship is in-person and the selected candidate must reside in the Chattanooga, TN area. The Chattanooga Tourism Co. is unable to provide housing, relocation assistance, or Visa sponsorship.
Core Responsibilities
  • Actively contribute to our social media channels by:
    • Assisting in creating and scheduling content for social platforms, including at least one short-form video weekly (e.g., Instagram Reel, TikTok)
    • Contributing to social media engagement through interacting with users and partners
    • Researching social media trends, new platform features, and community-building strategies to help evolve our digital voice
    • Reviewing analytics and performance insights to suggest and test content optimizations
  • Create written and visual content for social media, web, and email use-including blogs, photos, web, and email copy
  • Provide fresh ideas and perspectives for our digital strategy (social, web, email, etc.)
  • Help update, organize, and source digital assets (photos, graphics, templates, etc.)
  • Assist with screening and approving event listings on VisitChattanooga.com
  • Assist with editing and updating website content via our CMS, and assist with other site maintenance as needed
  • Support CRM data entry tasks
  • Collaborate with other Chattanooga Tourism Co. teams (e.g., Visitor Experience, Sales) on campaigns
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Content or Chief Marketing Officer

Qualifications
  • Must be a current college student or recent college graduate, preferably pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Marketing, SORT,
    Communications, Public Relations, or English.
  • Must meet and follow guidelines of the college/university's internship program, if applicable. Our team can meet 240 hours of course credit requirements for college program internships and may be able to meet up to 300 hours.
  • Must be able to work 20-25 hours a week
  • Must be able to work in a minimum of 4-hour increments within our office hours 8:30am - 5pm, Monday-Friday. Some evening and weekend work is required for social media content capture at local events. (We will work with your class schedule, of course)

Experience
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.) and a basic understanding of how to engage with audiences on each
  • Eye for community trends and content opportunities across platforms
  • Strong writing and communication skills; confident crafting captions, comments, and concise replies
  • Experience with Canva or other basic design tools and content management systems (e.g., Wordpress, Drupal, Squarespace, Wix) is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google products (especially Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint/Slides)
  • Customer service mindset; experience in hospitality or service roles is a plus

Physical Requirements*
  • A complete range of motion is required in the position including but not limited to: balancing, carrying, climbing, crawling, grasping/handling/feeling, kneeling, lifting (up to 35 lbs.), listening, pulling or pushing, reaching, running, seeing, sitting, standing, stooping, talking, walking, etc.
  • A valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and motor vehicle insurance is required. Riding in a vehicle may be required.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • The typical work environment is an environmentally controlled business office with core weekday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Occasional earlier morning, later evenings and weekend assignments
  • Off-site work during special events
