Description:

The Morgan Oliver School is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Summer Camp Counselors to join our dynamic team. Our school, a new small community institution, focuses on an anti-racist approach to teaching and learning. While the camp theme or curriculum does not need to center specifically on anti-racism, we ensure that campers engage in conversations about historically marginalized groups. We seek individuals who can contribute to creating a fun, engaging, and thoughtfully planned camp experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and implementing a fun summer camp theme with planned activities, experiences, and free choice time.
  • Support the Lead Counselor in maintaining a structured and engaging environment for up to eighteen campers.
  • Ensure the camp opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 4:00 PM, arriving reliably by 9AM to prepare for the day.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging participation and respecting all campers.
  • Help organize and manage communications with parents.
  • Aid in drafting a welcome letter to be sent the week before camp starts.
  • Follow the template schedule provided by MOS to ensure a consistent experience for campers.
  • Assist in purchasing approved snacks for the week and managing reimbursements up to $150.
  • Support the Lead Counselor and collaborate effectively to ensure a smooth camp operation.

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm and excitement about working with children.
  • Ability to build relationships across diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Previous experience in a summer camp setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Conscious Discipline or creative problem-solving approaches.
  • Proficient in modeling and using language that honors the whole child through appreciative inquiry and reflective opportunities.
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a team and support the Lead Counselor.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Confidence and grace in interactions.
  • A love for the mission of The Morgan Oliver School.
  • Stability and a strong work ethic.
  • Innovative thinking and flexibility in approach.

Where We Work:

This full-time, in-person position includes hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The camp is located in East Side Atlanta Church off Moreland in East Atlanta Village.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay.
  • A work environment that promotes and encourages leadership.
  • An appropriate materials budget.

Diversity and Inclusion Commitment:

We intentionally seek to include historically marginalized groups to build a community that considers the needs of the most vulnerable first. Our workplace is LGBTQIA+, black women-run, and disability-inclusive, honoring individuals from all walks of life without discrimination based on sex, gender, or any other isms.

Work Culture:

As a startup school, we promise creativity and flexibility in thought and ideas. We invite creative thinkers who value hard work and contribute to a familial, close-knit, and supportive work environment. We aim to enhance workplace satisfaction as we grow.

About The Morgan Oliver School:

  • Committed to socioeconomic diversity.
  • Dedicated to community collaboration and removing barriers to quality education.
  • Interested in developing and sharing our Anti-Racist Curriculum.
  • A lab school where pioneering educators can think outside the box and create rich experiences for children.
