Position Summary
Study Abroad Coordinator
International Education and Services
Full-Time
International Education and Services (IES) at Southeast Missouri State University is housed in the International Village on the Southeast campus. IES contributes to comprehensive internationalization efforts across the campus through oversight of the Intensive English Program (IEP), international recruitment and admissions, support services for more than 1,000 international students, and study abroad.
Reporting to the Executive Director of IES, the Study Abroad Coordinator will play a critical role for IES and the campus by coordinating study abroad advising, marketing, and administrative responsibilities. We seek a dynamic, ethical, motivated professional with excellent customer-service skills, a passion for learning, and a desire to help students achieve their education abroad goals.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Promote study abroad activities to the SEMO community as a high-impact practice with wide-ranging opportunities available to all students
  • Advise for all stages of a student's study abroad experience
  • Manage the Via TRM software system for study abroad program administration
  • Work with academic departments and advisors to identify and promote study abroad opportunities for students
  • Chair the scholarship committee responsible for selecting endowed scholarships for both study abroad and international students
  • Prepare and deliver pre- and post-departure orientations
  • Represent IES and Study Abroad at First Step and Show Me Days
  • Organize an annual Study Abroad fair for Southeast students
  • Advise on university policies pertaining to study abroad, and work to align Southeast's programs adhere to The Forum on Education Abroad's Standards of Good Practices (https://forumea.org/resources/standards-6th-edition/)
  • With Study Abroad Counselor, develop and maintain a new faculty-led program manual
  • Oversee insurance enrollment for outgoing study abroad participants and international students enrolled at Southeast
  • Monitor university exchange agreements and facilitate admission process of incoming exchange students
  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
  • Other responsibilities as determined by IES executive director

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident qualified to serve as DSO and ARO for SEVIS purposes
  • Experience living and/or studying abroad
  • Strong technical proficiency with a demonstrated ability to work across multiple software platforms simultaneously
  • Experience prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively and appropriately with people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience and comfort interacting with non-native English speakers and with public speaking
  • Ability to diffuse an emotional or tense situation and offer viable solutions
