What are study abroad programs?

Study abroad programs are educational opportunities that allow students to pursue part of their academic studies in a foreign country. These programs can range from a few weeks to a full academic year and often include coursework, language immersion, internships, or cultural experiences. The goal is to provide students with global perspectives, enhance language skills, and foster personal growth. Credits earned abroad can often be transferred to the student’s home institution, depending on the program.

What are some common challenges faced by study abroad advisors and how can they be addressed?

Study Abroad Advisors often encounter challenges such as managing complex visa processes, ensuring students' safety, and addressing cultural adjustment issues. These professionals must stay updated on international regulations and collaborate closely with university departments, students, and partner institutions. Building strong organizational systems and maintaining clear communication channels can help advisors navigate these challenges effectively. Regular professional development and networking with peers in the field also support problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Job Summary/Basic Function
Job Summary/Basic Function
WSU Study Abroad is looking for two students with separate job responsibilities. At least one of the students hired must be Work Study eligible. Both positions will be related to marketing.
Position #1: Study Abroad is seeking an outgoing student with the ability to connect with others and promote studying abroad through tabling and classroom visits. Having an engaging presence, the student will be stationed throughout campus to tell their fellow students about the benefits of studying abroad, general costs, scholarships available, and, of course, which programs are available based on major/minor. It is crucial to be engaging and bring people to the table rather than passively waiting for engagement. On days where tabling and classroom visits are not possible, the student will be stationed in the Study Abroad Office performing typical office duties, including answering phones, providing excellent customer service, responding to emails, maintaining databases, maintaining office appearance, and other duties as assigned.
Position #2: Study Abroad is seeking a student knowledgeable in social media and marketing. This student will promote studying abroad via social media, posters, and other promotional material. The successful candidate ideally has experience in graphic design and knowledge about social media platforms and trends. The student will be stationed in the Study Abroad Office. They will be required to maintain our social media presence by creating engaging content to be posted at least once per week on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Additionally, they will create marketing materials for a variety of programs, including posters, social media posts, and maintaining the information on the Study Abroad website for these programs. Completion of materials in a timely manner is a must. Since they will be in the office, they will also be required to perform typical office duties including answering phones, providing excellent customer service, responding to emails, maintaining databases, maintaining office appearance, and other duties as assigned.
