Job description

Description JOB SUMMARY The Animal Services Technician Intern provides care to the animals at the Animal Shelter. Responsibilities include: cleaning kennels, cages, floors, and common areas; feeding, bathing, medicating, and socializing animals; assessing the general physical condition of incoming animals; assisting in determining an animal's immediate needs; and evaluating animal behavior. Participate in learning activities and receive guidance under the direct supervision of the Animal Services Intern Supervisor to develop skills in animal care and shelter operations.

Examples of Duties Observes animals to determine health, eating habits, and behavioral issues; assesses the general physical condition of incoming animals; and assists in determining the animal's immediate needs. Performs animal care duties, which includes: feeding, and watering animals; monitoring animals for illness, disease, or injury; socializing animals; and performing other related activities. Observes the administration of medications and vaccines to animals.

Cleans and disinfects animal holding areas; monitors the security of facilities. Prepares and maintains a variety of files, records, reports, logs, or other related information. Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level.

Typical Qualifications Education and Experience: Must be a currently enrolled student in a high school or college program. Special Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age. Supplemental Information All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
