Paraprofessional I or II
I. General Description:
To support students and staff in maintaining appropriate activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively. The paraprofessional may work in a general education classroom setting and/or in an exceptional student classroom setting. The Paraprofessional I or II may include the following roles:
• Interventionist
• Alternative Classroom Placement (ACP)
• Library Assistant
• Student/Cluster Specific
II. Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Successful completion para educator assessment, 60 college credits (100 level orhigher), or an Associate's degree
3. Valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card (preferred)
4. General clerical experience (preferred)
5. Must be able to push, pull, or lift weights of at least 30 pounds
6. Must be proficient in the use of the English language, both verbal and written
7. First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained by the district)
8. Must be able to pass a background check upon employment
9. Must possess a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance card
III. Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists in executing the daily and long range lesson planning
2. Conducts learning exercises with individual children or small groups of children, in program related activities
3. Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with each other
4. Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children
5. Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary
6. Assists with supervision of children in the classroom, playground, and/or cafeteria
7. Assists the teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas
8. Assists in the preparation and the collection of educational materials such
as bulletin boards, charts, audio-visuals, seat work, dittos, flash cards, etc.
9. Attends in-service activities designed to help with instruction
10. Prepares and administers reading, math and language assessment testing to students as necessary
11. Tutors students as may be necessary
12. Maintains files and records as directed
13. Performs other related duties as assigned
IV. Additional Duties and Responsibilities specific for Library Assistant:
1. Responsible for circulation and shelving of all library materials, including textbooks
2. Maintain the general neatness and attractiveness of the library and its displays
3. Assists in receiving and processing materials selected for purchase
4. Informs teachers and students of overdue books on a regular basis
5. Makes repairs on damaged books
6. Collaborates with site staff to identify materials for specific units or projects
7. Completes inventory of library materials
8. Maintains the overall operation of the library
Reports To: Principal
Calendar: 10 Months; 29.5hrs/week
Salary: Classified Hourly Salary Schedule
