General Scope of Function

The Elementary STEAM Teacher designs and delivers engaging, hands-on learning experiences that integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics for students in grades 35. The teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers and specialists to extend and enrich core curriculum through project-based, inquiry-driven STEAM instruction

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned STEAM lessons and units for elementary students that promote creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
  • Facilitate hands-on projects and design challenges using an inquiry- and project-based learning approach in classroom and/or lab/maker space settings.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate STEAM concepts and instructional technologies into core content areas (ELA, math, science, social studies, the arts).
  • Maintain and manage the classroom space, including materials, tools, safety procedures, and scheduling.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, digital tools, and performance assessments to monitor student learning and adjust instruction for diverse learners.
  • Foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, perseverance, equity, and inclusive participation in STEAM learning for all students.
  • Communicate regularly with families and staff regarding student progress, classroom activities, and STEAM-related events or projects.
  • Support school- and district-wide STEAM initiatives, including special events, clubs, showcases, or enrichment opportunities.

  • Based on the working agreement between the Watertown Board of Education and the Watertown Education Association
