Job description

Do you have a passion for underwriting and a desire to lead, motivate, and inspire a high performing team? If so, this opportunity may be the perfect next step in your career. This position reports to the Pleasanton location (Greater Bay Area Region).
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Underwriting Manager, the Manager I will:
• Support the management of the Regional Office's underwriting function to achieve Budget Plan objectives while upholding all corporate and regulatory advisories, guidelines, and procedures.
• Effectively lead, coach, and develop staff while fostering strong employee engagement.
• Collaborate across regions, departments, and business segments to meet operational needs and enterprise wide objectives.
The successful candidate will oversee underwriting and policy servicing functions, ensuring compliance with corporate underwriting and marketing standards. This role is responsible for the acquisition, development, profitability, and retention of an assigned book of business. Additional responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, developing, appraising, and disciplining staff as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
• Planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the operations of the assigned underwriting unit
• Contributing to the Policy Operations and Regional Office leadership team
• Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with the broker community and monitoring broker trends
• Upholding integrity in every aspect of the workplace
• Delivering high quality customer service in a timely and professional manner
We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates:

Special Requirements
This is a 12 month Limited Term Position which may be extended to 24 months, or become Permanent.
Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract.
