Reporting to a Paralegal Manager, the Paralegal I provides support for routine litigation matters including client communication, discovery, pleading preparation and legal research on litigation matters under the direction of aligned attorneys and people leader.

 

Please be advised that Paralegals are expected to align their working hours with EST and CST time zones to support their respective staff legal office teams.

Note: Due to business requirements, we are unable to consider candidates residing in the following states: California, Arkansas, Kentucky and North Carolina.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Legal Research: Efficiently locate and retrieve relevant case law, statutes, and regulations using legal research tools and databases to support attorneys in building effective legal arguments.
  • Technology Integration: Efficiently manage legal documents, deadlines, and electronically stored information during litigation using case management and e-discovery tools, while proactively leveraging new and existing technologies to optimize workflow, streamline processes, and generate data-driven insights for improved outcomes.
  • Strategy Development and Analysis: Under moderate guidance, carefully evaluate the impact of legal matters by identifying potential risks and determining the best course of action to address them.
  • Project Management: Independently handle discrete projects or tasks within legal matters, ensuring effective planning, organization, and resource availability to meet project objectives while monitoring progress.
  • Legal Knowledge Application: Use strong analytical skills to break down legal information, identify patterns, extract relevant details, and apply legal principles to assist attorneys in informed decision-making. Prepares basic legal documents.
  • Client Relationship Development: Effectively communicate with clients, actively listen to their concerns, demonstrating empathy, and proactively addressing their needs to maintain positive relationships.
  • Effective Communication: Articulate thoughts clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats, asking relevant questions and seeking clarification as needed to ensure accurate conveyance of information and successful project execution.
Qualifications
  • Requires paralegal certificate or 2 years of non-clerical litigation experience under the direction of an attorney.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Ability to perform thorough legal research using advanced techniques, independently draft legal documents including motions and assist with analysis on complex matters.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with attorneys, clients, policyholders, and judges.
  • Requires strong organizational skills with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and to effectively prioritize work.
  • Must display effective use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and corporate and legal databases.
