Job Summary/Description:

Help Build the Future of Sports Broadcasting in Hawaii

Hawaii News Now is expanding its commitment to live sports production and storytelling, and we are seeking a hands-on, solutions-oriented HNN Sports Tech Manager / Engineer to help bring it to life.

This is a key role at the center of HNN Sports productions. You will serve as a key technical steward of Hawaii News Now’s live sports broadcasts, helping ensure seamless execution, strong communication, reliable systems, and high production quality across a wide range of events.

The ideal candidate is equal parts engineer, technical problem solver, and live production partner, someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, communicates well under pressure, and enjoys helping teams execute at a high level.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Serve as the technical lead and steward for HNN Sports productions and live broadcasts
• Help ensure strong technical communication and operational coordination between internal teams, hired production crews, partners, vendors, and production stakeholders
• Support live sports productions through technical planning, setup, troubleshooting, execution, and post-event wrap, along with facilitating live broadcast transmissions
• Help oversee and maintain broadcast equipment, technical workflows, signal paths, communication systems, and production infrastructure supporting HNN Sports
• Troubleshoot technical issues quickly and calmly in live production environments
• Partner closely with producers, directors, engineering, operations, and sports staff to ensure high-quality broadcasts and a seamless viewer experience
• Assist in evaluating, building, and improving technical workflows to support HNN Sports’ evolving production needs
• Contribute to other station-wide technical and production initiatives as needed
• Help maintain high standards of reliability, professionalism, and technical excellence across productions
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including supporting broader station productions, technical initiatives, and special projects as business needs evolve

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Experience in live television production, broadcast engineering, technical operations, remote production, or related technical fields
• Strong understanding of live production workflows and broadcast environments
• Experience with LiveU, Bonded Networking workflows, Vizrt or other GFX workflows, wireless audio and video systems, and fiber-based video transport.
• Ability to troubleshoot under pressure and communicate clearly during fast-paced live events
• Experience with broadcast systems, signal flow, communications, transmission, replay, graphics, control room, or remote production workflows preferred
• Experience supporting live sports productions strongly preferred
• Comfortable working nights, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional hours aligned with sports schedules
• Strong organizational skills, professionalism, and collaborative mindset
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and contribute across multiple station projects
