Description
Cary's Outdoor Recreation Team is seeking qualified applicants who are excited to share their enthusiasm with the wider community as experiential instructors! Ideal candidates have leadership experience working with youth in outdoor settings, can lead a variety of technical skills, and share our passion for experiential education teaching and learning.
You may be scheduled to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with operational hours varying by facility. Schedules and specific tasks may vary by facility.
This is a year-round, non-benefited position that will work up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Typical Tasks
  • Facilitate outdoor recreation and urban adventure programming, including high ropes, archery, paddling, orienteering, skateboarding, BMX, scooters, and parkour.
  • Deliver lessons, create engaging activities, and assist in special events for youth and adults.
  • Maintain and inspect equipment, perform basic facility upkeep, and set up/break down program materials.
  • Assist participants with registration, provide program information, and promote offerings effectively.
  • Serve as a positive role model, maintain professional interactions with participants and staff, and collaborate to enhance program quality.
  • Complete reports on lessons and events, attend meetings, and participate in training sessions.
  • Adhere to safety policies and ensure a secure and welcoming environment for all participants.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:
  • CPR/First Aid certification. If not already certified, the applicant must obtain certification upon employment(with supplied training)
  • Some experience leading programs individually and as a team.
  • Some experience in 1-on-1 facilitation or group facilitation.
  • Hands-on proficiency across multiple outdoor recreation / action sports areas, with the ability to adapt skills to diverse programs and participant needs.

Physical Requirements:Work requires the employee to work outside in variable weather and site conditions, including working at height. An employee must be able to climb, walk unassisted, move about freely, and carry moderately heavy items such as equipment and water coolers. An employee must be able to hear and talk to communicate with the public and with groups under instruction. Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal.

Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
