Assistant Coach - Men's Lacrosse
Athletics
JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Coach for men's lacrosse is responsible for supporting the head coach in operating and managing its men's lacrosse program. This includes the recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes. The assistant coach, in addition to all the requirements detailed in the Responsibilities and Duties section, is recognized as pivotal to, and responsible for, assisting the head coach with the record of the program as it relates to competitive scheduling, university/community relations, game preparation, and the enhancement and academic achievement of the student-athletes. In addition, the assistant coach works with the head coach to recruit, train (coach), and retain club lacrosse students. The assistant coach will support the head coach in developing, managing and leading the club lacrosse program from recruitment of players, scheduling of games and practices, coaching the team, managing and building the program alongside the varsity team.
SALARY INFORMATION:
In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $66,300. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

REPORTS TO: Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Assists the head coach in directing all phases of the management and administration of the men's lacrosse varsity and club programs.
  2. Adheres to and enforces all policies, procedures and guidelines of the University and the athletics department.
  3. Adheres to the compliance of all University, NCAA and other conference association rules and regulations.
  4. Responsible for assisting the head coach with the retention and graduation of the student-athletes and coordinates with the academic liaison. Also responsible for assisting the head coach with the retention of club lacrosse students.
  5. Responsible for assisting the head coach with all areas of the sport's budget including, recruiting, travel, and equipment for the varsity and club programs.
  6. Assists the head coach with scheduling and conducting regular practice sessions as allowed by the NCAA and University guidelines. Utilizes sound teaching techniques in the preparation of games and practices.
  7. Assists the head coach in coordinating all scheduling with the sport administrator and does the same with the recreation staff for the club program.
  8. Assists the head coach in coordinating team travel for the varsity and club programs with and submitting all budget requests to the Business Manager.
  9. Assists the head coach with formalizing and executing an alumni outreach plan with the sport administrator. Coordinates fundraising initiatives (events, individual outreach) with the AD and sport administrator for the purpose of enhancing the operating budget and endowed scholarships.
  10. Assists the head coach with overseeing the conditioning and training of the student-athletes in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff and the sports medicine staff and adheres to all policies and procedures within the University's health and safety program.
  11. Assists the head coach with developing and implementing strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at their best.
  12. Responsible for assisting the head coach with identifying, evaluating, and recruiting potential student-athletes. Assists with the identification and recruitment of the club lacrosse roster.
  13. Assists the head coach with initiating the process for recommending financial athletic aid, the National Letter of Intent and the non-renewal/renewal scholarship recommendations. All documentation for non-renewal of disciplinary suspensions is the responsibility of the head coach.
  14. Represents the sport program in the community as appropriate.
  15. Complies with policies and procedures set forth by Adelphi University, the Northeast 10 Conference, and the NCAA.
  16. Responsible for knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. If found responsible for a violation of NCAA regulations, will be subject to disciplinary or corrective action, including termination if appropriate. Also may be responsible for any act or omission that may give rise to a finding that the University has violated an NCAA regulation.
  17. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the head coach.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  1. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  2. Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  3. Ability to supervise students and employees.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Windows and E-mail.
  5. Ability to work nights and weekends is required.
  6. Thorough knowledge of NCAA and Conference guidelines.
  7. Knowledge of lacrosse, fitness, and competition preparation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must be able to conduct practice session.
  2. Must be able to demonstrate proper techniques.
  3. Position requires working weekends and holidays.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor's degree is required.
  2. One to three years of experience coaching is required, preferably at the college level.
