Overview:
¨ Performs tasks common to the care of grounds and landscapes by seeding, watering, mulching, fertilizing, and applying chemicals to plantings; inspecting plant materials for insects, disease, physical and mechanical damage; transplanting, pruning, trimming, and cultivating trees, shrubs, ground cover, and flowers.
¨ Participate in the planning and implementation of ornamental beds and season annual plantings.
¨ Lead improvement programs with respect to enhancement of the grounds.
¨ Coordinate and report needs for irrigation scheduling and repair.
¨ Ensure proper application of pesticides and fertilizers. Keeping detailed records of applications.
¨ Prepare outdoor locations for use by guests as needed by resort operations.
¨ Safely operates light vehicles such as pick-up trucks, tractors, or riding mowers and portable power tools and equipment such as saws, grass trimmers, snow/leaf blowers, sprayers and other groundskeeping equipment by obeying applicable traffic laws and following operator instructions, and wearing appropriate safety items such as goggles, gloves, or other appropriate protective clothing.
¨ Ensures that grounds maintenance equipment maintenance equipment is well cared for by performing routine cleaning of tools, equipment and machines.
¨ Assists in preventing accidents resulting from snow- or ice-covered walkways by use of snow removal equipment on trucks and tractors; operating snow blowers, tractors or using shovels to remove snow and spread gravel and salt on surfaces.
¨ Supports safe work habits and foster a positive work environment.
¨ Contributes to the overall success of the resort by performing all other related duties as assigned.
Experience/Education Requirements:
¨ Experience preferred but not required.
¨ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
¨ Ability to communicate effectively with guests, management, vendors/suppliers and associates.
¨ Valid Virginia Driver's License and comply with Company motor vehicle requirements.
¨ Effective communication skills, both oral and written
Physical Requirements:
¨ High physical stamina to work outdoors in all weather conditions, lifting 50 pounds, standing/walking for up to eight hours and operating heavy machinery
