Project Manager (Department of Defense - Architecture)

March 31, 2026

AHL’s office in downtown Honolulu is seeking a Project Manager with Department of Defense (DoD) experience to join our highly creative and collaborative team. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for management, team, and consultant coordination, and oversight of production and design of Department of Defense (DoD) and non-DoD projects.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four‑year college or university preferred.
  • Educational background and/or coursework in Architecture, Project Management, or Construction Management required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years substantial experience in all phases of architecture, including five (5) years of substantial project management experience on DoD projects.
  • Architectural registration preferred; however, non‑licensed and soon‑to‑be licensed individuals will also be considered.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Substantial knowledge of DoD procedures for design, project management, and production of design development and construction phase documents.
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural planning, detailing, drafting, construction materials and methods.
  • Working knowledge of related engineering principles and building codes.
  • Proficiency in CAD.
  • Revit and/or 3‑D software program experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • General knowledge of project scheduling software.
Typical Duties
  • Manages direction, coordination, and production of DoD projects including non‑DoD work as office workloads may change.
  • Provides project management of the project from design through construction documents.
  • Coordinates design of the project with both outside consultants and in‑house project teams.
  • Manages the preparation of design drawings by other designers.
  • With Project Architect, reviews documents for code compliance.
  • Oversees overall project finances, including preparing/reviewing invoices for base project fees and additional services.
  • Regularly reviews the project budget and tracks internal performance.
  • Acts as a project architect in the absence of this position.
