Our Malvern, PA office has an exciting opportunity for aTax Strategy & Operations Manager! This role is responsible for leading the redesign and modernization of our tax preparation practice, driving transformative change across every aspect of our tax services. Reporting to the Tax Manager, this position offers significant autonomy to develop scalable processes, lead software migration, shape team structure, and establish long-term business strategies within a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $130,000.00 to $180,000.00, exclusive of bonuses and benefits. Primary Job Functions

Practice Transformation and Process Design

  • Assess existing tax preparation workflows, including client intake, document collection, preparation, review, client communication, and pricing.

  • Redesign workflows for efficiency and scalability.

  • Lead software migration from Pro Series to CCH Axcess (cloud-based), managing data transfer, workflow setup, and staff training.

  • Develop standardized processes, templates, and checklists to enhance quality control, consistency, and turnaround time.

Strategic Planning and Business Development

  • Create and execute multi-year business plans to transition the tax practice into a profitable, sustainable operation.

  • Partner with leadership on client capacity strategies, managing reduction and future reopening to new clients.

  • Establish pricing models, service tiers, and capacity metrics to support growth.

Team Leadership and Seasonal Staff Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of seasonal tax preparers, ensuring quality and adherence to deadlines.

  • Manage the full seasonal hiring lifecycle, including interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing oversight as the practice expands.

  • Build a long-term vision for a proactive, scalable tax team.

Proactive Tax Planning and Advisor Collaboration

  • Partner with financial advisors during non-tax season to deliver proactive, year-round tax planning strategies for full-service clients.

  • Provide tax-aware insights on complex client situations, including those involving K-1 income, Schedule C businesses, rental properties, and tax-driven investment strategies.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on tax implications and planning opportunities within the advisory team.

Tax Preparation and Review

  • Prepare and review individual tax returns of varying complexity, in areas including K-1s, Schedule C, rental income, and advanced tax-led strategies.

  • Ensure all returns are accurate, compliant, and accompanied by exceptional client communication.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively across departments, acting as a liaison between tax, advisory, operations, and compliance teams.

  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with clients, colleagues, and leadership.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Qualifications

  • Active CPA license (required)

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, taxation, finance, or a related field

  • Master's degree in taxation or MBA preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience preparing individual tax returns, including complex returns (K-1s, Schedule C, rental properties, and tax-driven investment strategies)

  • Demonstrated experience leading process improvement initiatives, software transitions, or practice-level transformations

  • Experience with CCH Axcess or other CCH cloud-based solutions preferred

  • Proven ability to lead, hire, and manage a team, particularly in a seasonal or high-volume environment

  • Strong business acumen and ability to develop and execute business plans

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Workday preferred

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build trust across departments and skill levels

  • Highly process-oriented with outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Comfortable working independently with significant autonomy in a dynamic environment

  • Genuine passion for helping people and the tax process

WEG hires employees and makes decisions about their salary qualifications based on factors such as the role to be performed; educational and professional experience, qualifications, skills and credentials; tenure, cost-of-living and demand for the role in the applicable market. To comply with state, pay transparency laws, we must disclose the entire salary grade. The entire salary grade for those who are classified as this level is $75,600 - $180,100. The Tax Strategy & Operations Managerrole is compensated through a combination of base salary and variable pay, with total compensation aligned to performance metrics and company goals.
