Job description

Social Engagement Director

Full-Time | Arbors/Ivy Assisted Living Community

At Arbors/Ivy, engagement isn’t optional — it’s essential. We are family-oriented, integrity-driven, and committed to creating meaningful experiences for seniors and their families. We work hard, we support each other, and yes — we laugh often.

We are looking for a Social Engagement Director who doesn’t just plan activities — but knows every detail matters, follows through impeccably, and truly has a heart for seniors.

This Role Is For Someone Who:
  • Notices the small things others miss
  • Follows up — every time
  • Takes pride in impeccable, organized work
  • Does the right thing, even when no one is watching
  • Is friendly and fun — but never sloppy
  • Is autonomous and self-motivated
  • Figures things out without being hand-held
  • Understands that excellence is in the details

You will be the energy behind our 7-day-a-week engagement calendar — but more importantly, you will be the connector. The person who learns what each resident loves, what they used to enjoy, what they wish they could still do — and then finds creative ways to bring that spark back.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and execute a dynamic, well-organized recreational program every single week
  • Learn residents’ interests by observing, listening, and asking thoughtful questions
  • Increase participation by redesigning programs when interest dips
  • Plan outings (shopping, movies, museums, lunch, concerts) and safely drive our 15-passenger van
  • Build trust with residents and families through consistent, warm communication
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers and activity assistants
  • Publish polished monthly calendars and newsletters (accuracy matters!)
  • Lead special events that bring joy, connection, and purpose
  • Contribute to occupancy growth by helping families feel confident recommending our community

This role requires creativity — but also structure.
Fun — but follow-through.
Heart — and accountability.

You’ll Thrive Here If You:
  • Love seniors and genuinely enjoy being around them
  • Take ownership without waiting to be told what to do
  • Keep organized systems and accurate schedules
  • Balance warmth with professionalism
  • See a quiet resident and think, “How can I draw them in?”
  • Want your work to matter every single day

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in therapeutic recreation
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with elders (home care, assisted living, or skilled nursing)
  • Demonstrated experience developing recreational programs
  • Must meet Registry of Motor Vehicles requirements to drive residents

Benefits
  • PTO
  • Health & Dental Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Short & Long-Term Disability
  • Health & Dependent Care FSA
  • Paid Holidays + Floating Holiday
  • Pet Health Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Programs
  • Retirement Account Assistance
  • Employee Appreciation Programs

At Arbors/Ivy, we believe in collective ownership. We show up. We follow through. We create experiences families trust and residents look forward to.

If you are organized, dutiful, self-driven, and genuinely passionate about helping seniors live with joy and purpose — we would love to meet you.
