The
Shipping Team Lead is responsible for coordinating daily shipping operations while leading and supporting a team to ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate shipment of finished goods to customers. This role oversees outbound material flow, loading activities, shipping documentation, quality verification, and carrier coordination while serving as the first point of contact for team member questions and issue resolution.
This role also works closely with Logistics, Operations, and Quality departments to meet customer requirements and delivery commitments. This position enforces safety and compliance standards, maintains an organized and audit-ready shipping environment, monitors productivity metrics, provides coaching and training support, and identifies continuous improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce shipping errors.
Shift: Monday - Thursday: 7am - 5:30pm
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Daily Operations
- Lead, assign, and coordinate daily activities of shipping team members to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Monitor workflow to ensure timely and accurate shipment of customer orders.
- Provide hands-on support to the team during peak periods or staffing shortages.
- Communicate daily priorities, shipping schedules, and performance expectations to team members.
- Serve as the first point of contact for team member questions, concerns, and issue resolution.
Shipping & Logistics Management
- Oversee the accurate preparation, staging, loading, and shipment of finished goods.
- Coordinate outbound shipments with carriers, logistics providers, and internal departments.
- Ensure all shipping documentation is completed accurately and maintained according to company procedures.
- Work closely with Customer Service and Sales to support customer delivery requirements and resolve shipment issues.
- Operate a switcher truck to safely move trailers and equipment within the facility as required.
- Ensure trailers are properly loaded, secured, and compliant with transportation requirements.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Perform and oversee outgoing quality inspections to ensure products meet company and customer requirements prior to shipment.
- Review incoming Quality Inspection Reports (QIRs) and communicate concerns or trends to the appropriate departments.
- Ensure products are packaged, secured, and shipped in a manner that prevents damage during transit.
- Enforce company safety policies, shipping procedures, and warehouse standards.
- Promote safe work practices, including proper equipment operation and material handling techniques.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and internal safety requirements.
- Address unsafe behaviors or conditions promptly and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready shipping environment.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor team productivity and maintain accurate shipping metrics.
- With assistance from the Shipping & Scheduling Manager, provide coaching and real-time feedback to improve performance of team members.
- Assist with training and onboarding of new shipping team members.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, safety, and shipment accuracy.
- Support implementation of Lean, 5S, or other operational improvement initiatives.
General Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment as required.
- Assist with scheduling coverage and coordinating labor to meet shipping demands.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, operations, quality, customer service, logistics, and sales.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-3 years of experience in shipping, warehouse operations, logistics, or other related function.
- Forklift experience required; switcher truck experience preferred or ability to obtain certification/training.
- Knowledge of shipping documentation, freight procedures, and load securement requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to process data quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Continuous learner with a focus on adaptability and process improvement.
- Willingness to be visible on the shop floor and engage with team members daily.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to support cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or relevant college coursework.
- Previous experience leading or coordinating team activities preferred.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems, shipping software, and inventory transactions preferred.
- Experience coordinating carrier pickups, freight scheduling, and transportation logistics.
- Prior manufacturing floor experience.

- Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. unassisted with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing more than 45 lbs. using team lifting procedures.
- Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods (8-12 hours per shift).
- Ability to safely move throughout the manufacturing floor.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and/or ladders as required for job tasks.
- Ability to use hands, wrists, and fingers for handling materials, writing, and computer work.
- Frequent use of computers, keyboards, tablets, scanners, or handheld devices.
- Ability to work in a loud, fast-paced industrial environment.
- Ability to work in hot and cold environmental conditions.
