Job Title: Engineer Product Design
Location: New Albany, IN
Job Summary
This position supports the Wear Components Engineering group by working directly with customers to understand requirements, develop product specifications, and support manufacturing processes. The Product Engineer will manage new product development and process improvement projects, work closely with manufacturing to ensure successful product launches, and provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders. The role is based in New Albany and collaborates closely with global engineering resources.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Work with customers to understand product requirements and develop agreed-upon product specifications.
  • Document product specifications, manufacturing processes, and verification requirements.
  • Support manufacturing teams to ensure products are produced efficiently and meet customer expectations.
  • Manage assigned products and lead new product development projects through Kennametal's stage-gate process.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance quality, productivity, and operational performance.
  • Provide technical support to sales, customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Prepare quotations for pump components supporting both domestic and international sales.
  • Support existing industrial clad products and identify opportunities for product improvements.
  • Coordinate manufacturing readiness activities to ensure successful new product launches.
  • Ensure product and process documentation is accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Collaborate with the Bangalore engineering team to provide technical guidance on product design and process requirements.
  • Travel as needed to support customers, suppliers, and business objectives.

Education, Work Experience, Skills, Certificates
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred.
  • Relevant machining, manufacturing, or product engineering experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Machining experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across multiple organizational levels and locations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to support both internal and external customers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and project management software such as Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with SAP, NX, and Lean Manufacturing principles is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support job responsibilities.
