What is a service manager?

Service manager is a broad title given to positions throughout a wide variety of industries. As it is an umbrella term, responsibilities vary significantly from job to job. However, in all service manager positions, your duties revolve around ensuring that the services your company offers are running smoothly. This means coordinating with a team of service workers to ensure that their work meets the standards set by the company and the industry. In industries like healthcare, this may require more than basic customer service, as your team must also meet government regulations. Management positions may require overtime, especially in shift work industries, as you are responsible for the performance of the entire department, not just a particular shift. Necessary skills and qualifications vary by job. However, all service managers must be organized, able to delegate when needed, and have excellent communication skills.

What does a service manager do?

A Service Manager oversees the delivery of customer service within an organization, ensuring that client needs are met efficiently and effectively. They manage service teams, coordinate maintenance or repair schedules, handle customer inquiries or complaints, and work to improve overall service quality. Service Managers also analyze service processes, implement improvements, and ensure compliance with company policies and standards. Their goal is to enhance customer satisfaction and support the business’s operational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a service manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Service Manager, you need strong leadership, customer service expertise, and experience in operations management, typically supported by a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with CRM systems, service management software, and process improvement methodologies like Six Sigma is often required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and team-building skills help you effectively lead teams and resolve client issues. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring customer satisfaction, efficient service delivery, and achieving operational goals.

How does a service manager typically collaborate with other departments to improve customer satisfaction?

Service Managers work closely with departments such as sales, operations, and technical support to ensure a seamless customer experience. They often coordinate with sales teams to understand customer expectations, communicate with technical staff to resolve complex service issues, and provide feedback to product teams for service improvements. Regular interdepartmental meetings and transparent communication are key to identifying and addressing customer pain points, ultimately enhancing overall satisfaction.

What is the difference between Service Manager vs Customer Service Supervisor?

AspectService ManagerCustomer Service Supervisor

Both roles require strong communication skills, but the Service Manager typically has broader responsibilities and higher qualifications.

Is a service manager a stressful job?

The job often requires strong organizational skills, problem-solving, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations, especially in fast-paced environments.

Description

Maui, HI | Mercedes-Benz | Luxury brand | Service Manager | Fixed ops | Service leadership | CSI | Absorption | Hawaii | Veterans encouraged to apply | $120,000 - $144,000/yr

IS THIS YOU?

You're a proven Service Manager with 3+ years of fixed ops leadership -- you own CSI, absorption, team development, and the daily rhythm of a well-run service department

You build teams that perform through clear standards, direct coaching, and a hospitality-first culture that guests feel from the moment they pull onto the drive

You're ready to lead the service department of a Mercedes-Benz store on Maui -- where the community is tight-knit, the guest relationships are lasting, and the standard matches the brand

WHO WE ARE

Swickard Auto Group is a hospitality company that happens to sell and service cars. We believe the best guest experiences start with the best employee experiences. That's why we've grown to 40+ rooftops across the West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaii while maintaining a culture built on one simple idea: do right by people, every time.

Mercedes-Benz of Maui serves a loyal, discerning island community where the service department is often the most meaningful and lasting relationship a guest has with the dealership. On Maui, guests know their Service Manager -- and the leader who runs this department with integrity, hospitality, and operational discipline builds something that compounds for years.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead the full service department operation -- managing technicians, service advisors, and support staff to deliver consistent quality, efficiency, and guest satisfaction

Own key fixed ops metrics -- CSI, absorption, effective labor rate, technician productivity, hours per RO, and warranty compliance

Develop and hold accountable a service team that operates with discipline, professionalism, and genuine hospitality at every guest touchpoint

Drive service department revenue and profitability through training, process discipline, and an advisor team that presents recommendations honestly and accurately

Partner with parts to ensure inventory alignment supports service throughput

Manage staffing, scheduling, and technician development -- recruiting, onboarding, and retaining the talent that keeps the department performing

Maintain Mercedes-Benz OEM certification compliance, warranty administration standards, and manufacturer relationship requirements

Resolve guest escalations with composure and a hospitality-first approach

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

3+ years of Service Manager experience at a franchised dealership -- required

Mercedes-Benz or luxury brand service management experience strongly preferred -- the MBZ guest profile, OEM standards, and certification requirements are foundational to success in this role

Demonstrated CSI and absorption performance -- you know what a well-run department looks like and you've delivered it

A people-first leadership approach -- you develop your advisors and technicians, not just manage around them

Strong operational discipline across scheduling, workflow, documentation, and warranty compliance

Reynolds & Reynolds or CDK experience preferred

Clear communicator who builds trust with guests, technicians, advisors, and dealership leadership equally

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

WHAT WE OFFER

$120,000 - $144,000/yr

Medical, dental, and vision insurance

Life insurance and supplemental coverage options

Paid time off and paid holidays

Career growth -- strong Service Managers at Swickard grow into fixed ops director and multi-store operational leadership roles

Employee vehicle purchase and service discounts

The opportunity to lead a luxury service department in one of the most unique and sought-after markets in the country

WHY MERCEDES-BENZ OF MAUI

Maui is a tight-knit island community where guest loyalty in the service department runs deep -- a Service Manager who leads with integrity and hospitality builds relationships that last for the life of every vehicle

Mercedes-Benz of Maui is the premier luxury automotive destination on the island -- the standard the brand demands and the community expects are the same, and the Service Manager who delivers both earns lasting respect

Swickard is one of the fastest-growing dealer groups in the country -- ranked Top 5 in North America for reputation in the automotive industry

A hospitality-first culture that aligns naturally with Maui's spirit -- the service department should feel as welcoming as the island itself

Our HEART values -- Honor, Engage, Anticipate, Respond, Thank -- shape how we lead our teams and serve our guests every day

If you're a proven Service Manager ready to lead a Mercedes-Benz service department on Maui -- where the brand standard, the island community, and a hospitality-first culture all point in the same direction -- we'd like to meet you.
