What is a senior solutions engineer?

Senior Solutions Engineers are experienced professionals who work closely with clients to understand their technical needs and design tailored solutions using their company's products or services. They act as a bridge between sales teams and technical teams, often providing pre-sales support, technical demonstrations, and post-sales implementation guidance. Senior Solutions Engineers use deep technical expertise and strong communication skills to solve complex business problems and ensure customer satisfaction. Their role often requires collaboration with product development, project management, and other stakeholders to deliver optimal solutions.

How does a senior solutions engineer typically collaborate with sales and product teams during the sales cycle?

A Senior Solutions Engineer plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between technical and non-technical teams during the sales cycle. They work closely with sales representatives to understand client needs, deliver tailored product demonstrations, and address technical queries. Additionally, they liaise with product teams to relay customer feedback, influence product development, and ensure proposed solutions align with both client requirements and product capabilities. This collaborative approach ensures that solutions are both technically feasible and commercially viable, contributing to successful deal closures.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior solutions engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Solutions Engineer, you need deep technical expertise in software architecture, strong problem-solving abilities, and a relevant degree in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with cloud platforms, API integration, pre-sales tools, and industry-standard certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect are typically expected. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and client-facing skills help you translate complex requirements and build strong relationships. These skills ensure that you can design effective solutions, align technical offerings with client needs, and drive successful implementation outcomes.

Job description

Laserfiche is looking for a Senior Solutions Engineer to be the technical lead our customers trust with their most complex projects, from kickoff through delivery. In this role, you will partner with customers day-to-day as a trusted advisor: leading discovery, translating business objectives into well-designed and scalable solutions, and owning the build, testing, and deployment end-to-end. You have an eye for process improvement, especially through responsible use of AI, and you look for ways to apply it both for Laserfiche’s customers and within our own organization.

Why We Need You

Our customers are asking more of Laserfiche than ever: enterprise integrations, compliance-heavy environments, and AI-powered automation that didn’t exist a few years ago. Delivering on that ambition takes senior expertise, and it comes in more than one shape: some Senior Solutions Engineers lead teams through our largest implementations, while others are deep specialists – the first call when the toughest migrations or trickiest integrations have to go right. Either way, you’ll raise the bar for the whole team and show customers what responsible AI adoption looks like in practice.

Location
  • Hybrid: Three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) in-office in Long Beach, CA
  • Remote work from home on Mondays and Fridays
  • Must be able to support occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Up to 25% travel.
About the Role - Key Responsibilities:

One week you might be leading discovery with a public-sector customer whose document workflows have to satisfy auditors and records managers alike; the next, you’re migrating millions of documents out of a legacy system, integrating Laserfiche with a customer’s ERP through REST APIs, or prototyping an agentic AI automation the customer didn’t know was possible. You may lead a team of Solutions Engineers on larger projects and work independently on smaller ones. Hard problems come to you first.

Across your projects, you will:

  • Gather business requirements, translate them into solution designs and delivery plans, and own building and testing the solution end-to-end.
  • Own technical documentation for each project, such as system documentation, end-user documentation, and test plans.
  • Provide troubleshooting, training, and support for customers.
  • Act as the escalation point for project challenges and keep stakeholders informed of issues and potential resolutions.
  • Beyond your own projects, you will:
    • Conduct design, scoping, and technical reviews for other active and potential projects.
    • Share your expertise with the team through mentorship, presenting at internal forums, enhancing knowledgebases, and more.
    • Identify and act upon opportunities to build or enhance internal solutions and tools that help our team work more effectively.
  • Effective AI use is part of the job, not a side project:
    • Use AI tools daily to multiply your own effectiveness, verify outputs before you trust them, and share what works with the team.
    • Identify where AI and agentic automation can improve solutions, and lead with a prototype whenever building one costs less than a meeting about it.
    • Help define what responsible, effective AI practice looks like for our organization – including where a human stays in the loop, what guardrails an agent operates within, and how we verify what it did.
About You - Essential Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of technical experience in customer-facing roles, preferably in solutions engineering, professional services, presales, or another consultative role.
  • 4+ years of experience working with SaaS, enterprise software, cloud, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and communicate complex technical concepts across business and technical audiences.
  • Experience with content management and/or low-code/no-code automation platforms.
  • Hands-on experience deploying agentic AI and related technologies such as MCP servers, with curiosity and motivation to keep learning as the space evolves.
  • A track record of putting AI and agentic automation to work in real delivery – shipped work you can walk us through.
  • Experience with application development and modern software development lifecycles.
  • Experience with information security standards or compliance frameworks (e.g., CJIS, FedRAMP/GovRAMP, HIPAA).

The salary range varies, and pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, certifications (if applicable), candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills and years of experience amongst other factors.

  • $105,000 - $155,000 per year
Perks & Benefits at a Glance
  • Generous time off:
    • 15 Days of Vacation
    • 3 Floating Holidays
    • 2 Paid Volunteer Days
    • 9 Paid Holidays
  • Free Parking: covered and EV charging stations
  • Various 401 (k) Investment Options and Generous Company Match
  • HMO and PPO Medical Care Options (Employees are fully covered under HMO)

Applicants must be authorized to work for Laserfiche in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employer sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor new employment visas, or take over sponsorship of existing employment visas, at this time.
