Job description

Senior Revenue Accountant

Location: Sandy, UT (hybrid, 2 days per week in office)

So, what's the role all about?

As a Senior Revenue Accountant, you'll play an important role in supporting a well-established, publicly traded SaaS business with a collaborative revenue accounting function. You'll work closely with crossfunctional partners to ensure revenue is accounted for accurately and consistently, while helping maintain the strong processes and controls expected of a mature public company.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex accounting questions, contributing to reliable financial reporting, and continuously improving processes in an evolving SaaS environment.

How will you make an impact?

Senior Revenue Accountant - Key Responsibilities

  • Support the revenue accounting process in accordance with ASC 606, including participation in contract review, assessment of performance obligations, evaluation of transaction price, and allocation and recognition of revenue for assigned areas.
  • Review customer contracts, amendments, renewals, and modifications, and partner closely with Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, FP&A, and Order Management to ensure appropriate revenue treatment for standard and nonstandard terms.
  • Manage monthly and quarterly revenue close activities, ensuring revenue is recorded accurately, completely, and in compliance with US GAAP and public company reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and review revenue related journal entries, including deferred revenue, contract assets, and contract liabilities.
  • Maintain reconciliations for revenue related balance sheet accounts, investigate variances, and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Own the revenue subledger and ensure alignment between operational systems and the general ledger.
  • Support SOX 404 controls related to revenue by documenting processes, maintaining supporting evidence, and participating in control walkthroughs and testing.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors for revenue related matters, including preparation of audit schedules, technical accounting support, and responses to audit inquiries.
  • Draft and maintain revenue accounting policies, procedures, and technical accounting memos, including documentation for complex revenue arrangements.
  • Partner with FP&A to support revenue forecasting, backlog reporting, and analysis of bookings, billings, and revenue trends.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual revenue disclosures for public filings, including deferred revenue roll forwards and contract balance disclosures.
  • Support system integrations, enhancements, and process improvements related to revenue accounting, including scalability, automation, and internal control effectiveness.
  • Ensure data integrity across revenue systems, billing platforms, manual schedules, and cloud ERP systems (e.g., Workday Financials).
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accountants or offshore team members on revenue accounting processes and close responsibilities.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control within the revenue accounting function in a high growth SaaS environment.

Have you got what it takes?

Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including SaaS revenue experience in a multi-entity, multi-region environment.
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Public company or Big 4 background.

Skills and Tools

  • Strong communication, writing, financial analysis, and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Workday Financials (or strong experience with a comparable cloud ERP and clear willingness to ramp on Workday).
  • Comfort working across systems and pulling, reconciling, and analyzing data from multiple sources.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to communicate and influence at all levels of an organization.
