About the Role

The Senior Project Manager - Construction is responsible for leading complex construction projects across multiple markets, including commercial, healthcare, K-12, and higher education. This individual will provide strategic leadership, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. In addition to project execution, the Senior Project Manager actively cultivates strong client relationships to drive repeat business, long-term partnerships, and overall customer satisfaction.

The Senior Project Manager - Construction reports to the Vice President and works closely with leadership, assistant project managers, superintendents, and field personnel across all Berglund Construction operations.

What You’ll Accomplish

Project Management & Execution

  • Manage all phases of commercial construction projects from award through final completion.
  • Lead and maintain project planning, budgeting, scheduling, cost controls, and resource allocation across multiple market sectors.
  • Direct subcontractors, vendor selection, and field personnel.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct regular job site visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety.
  • Monitor project performance metrics (schedule, budget, quality & safety) and implement corrective actions as needed.

Client Relationship Development & Business Growth

  • Serve as primary point of contact and trusted advisor for commercial clients.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships through proactive communication and responsiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services or future projects with existing clients.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings, budgeting discussions, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at client meetings, networking events, and industry functions.
  • Ensure a high level of client satisfaction by anticipating needs, resolving concerns promptly, and delivering positive overall project experience.
  • Collaborate with leadership to support repeat business and referral opportunities.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Manage and prepare project budgets and cost forecasts.
  • Review subcontractor bids and negotiate contracts.
  • Approve invoices and manage pay applications.
  • Track change orders and ensure proper documentation.
  • Monitor job cost reports and maintain profitability goals.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion jobsite safety and ensure adherence to company and regulatory safety standards.
  • Implement quality control processes specific to commercial construction work.
  • Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, permits, and reporting.

Leadership

  • Provide leadership and support to assistant project managers and project managers.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, expectations, and accountability for team.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ of progressive project management experience in the construction industry.
  • Proven track record delivering projects in at least three of the following markets:

Commercial (office, mixed-use, retail, etc.)

Healthcare (hospitals, clinics, medical office buildings)

K-12 Education (schools, renovations, additions)

Higher Education (universities, research facilities, student housing)

  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, contracts, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, trade partners and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in project management software: Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, etc.
  • OSHA knowledge and commitment to job site safety.
