Job description

Description The City of Jefferson is accepting application for a Purchasing Technician or a Senior Purchasing Technician. This position assists purchasing agent with administration of a centralized purchasing program designed to supply large quantities of supplies, materials, and equipment to City departments; reviews requisitions; prepares orders; awards some bids; manages contract listings and assists with disposal of surplus property providing Jefferson City with efficient supply procurement. Examples of Duties Reviews specifications; participates in accepting and analyzing formal and informal bids and recommends purchases; prepares correspondence relating to bids, specifications, quality, and delivery dates.

Answers purchasing questions; provides specifications, suppliers, and historical prices; recommends proper procurement procedures; tracks bids, renewals, and expirations; and researches orders. Explains new purchasing specifications and procedures to vendors and bidders and serves as a central contact for all bidding. Assists with the disposal of surplus property and equipment.

Reviews requests for payment against purchase orders for compliance with established purchase order and purchasing and personnel policies. Maintains the City's risk management contracts, including maintenance of the City's property schedule. Processes payments in financial system.

Typical Qualifications Purchasing Technician: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in procurement, accounting, or related field. Senior Purchasing Technician: Accredited Associates' or technical degree in Business, Accounting or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience and one year of public governmental purchasing experience. Physical: Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.

Mental: Ability to perform numerical detail work with speed and accuracy and make difficult mathematical computations with mechanical assistance; prepare clear and concise oral and written reports; exercise good judgment in developing recommendations, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other government employees and the public. Supplemental Information Specific classification level and salary depend upon qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a Purchasing Technician is $40,839 ($19.63 hourly) and maximum salary for a Senior Purchasing Technician is $64,321 ($30.92 hourly)
