Job description

Summary

We are representing a well-established and culturally strong multifamily General Contractor seeking a senior-level construction accounting professional to join their growing team. This is a high-impact role for someone who brings deep construction accounting expertise, thrives in a fast-paced builder environment, and is ready to take ownership of project financials at a high level.

The right candidate will play a key role in an upcoming transition to Sage and Procore — making this an exciting opportunity for someone who not only knows the numbers but understands construction accounting systems and can help shape how the company manages its financial operations going forward.

Title will be determined based on the right individual's experience and background — whether that's Senior Project Accountant, Project Controller, Construction Controller, or Accounting Manager, the door is open for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

Project Accounting & Financial Management

  • Own full-cycle project accounting across an active portfolio of multifamily construction projects
  • Manage job cost tracking, cost-to-complete forecasting, and budget variance analysis
  • Process and review owner pay applications, subcontractor payments, and lien waivers
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date job cost reports and distribute to Project Managers and leadership
  • Track and reconcile change orders, PCOs, and contract modifications across active projects

Financial Reporting & Controls

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal leadership review
  • Assist in or lead the preparation of WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules and project profitability analysis
  • Support general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, bonding requirements, and internal financial controls
  • Coordinate with external accountants and auditors as needed

Systems & Process Leadership

  • Lead or actively support the upcoming transition to Sage and Procore
  • Develop and implement accounting workflows, procedures, and best practices within the new platform
  • Train and support project management and field staff on financial processes and system use
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, billing, and cost tracking across the organization

Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and ownership on project financial performance
  • Serve as the financial resource for the project team — answering cost questions, flagging variances, and keeping projects financially on track
  • Support subcontractor prequalification, insurance compliance tracking, and contract administration as needed

Project Experience Required

  • Ground-Up Multifamily Construction (Podium, Wrap, Garden-Style)
  • Mixed-Use & Large-Scale Residential Development
  • GMP & Lump Sum Contract Accounting
  • Subcontractor Billing & Lien Waiver Management
  • WIP Reporting & Job Cost Analysis
  • Software Transition & Implementation Experience a Strong Plus

Qualifications

  • 7–15+ years of construction accounting experience, preferably with a General Contractor
  • Strong preference for candidates with multifamily or large-scale residential construction background
  • Proficiency in Sage (Sage 300 CRE / Timberline) and/or Procore strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting or leading a software implementation or system transition a significant plus
  • Deep understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, AIA billing, and subcontractor payment workflows
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with project and field teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered

Compensation & Benefits

  • Highly competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid holidays and PTO
  • Flexible and collaborative work environment
  • Strong company culture with long-term stability and growth potential
