POSITION SUMMARY:ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

This position will on traffic engineering projects including focus areas of traffic signal design, signing, pavement markings, and analyses.ย This position is recognized as a technical specialist with an in-depth knowledge in focus area.ย This position is responsible for the complete management of all assigned projects, ranging in size and complexity.ย  This also could be a member of teams that are managed by other project managers.ย  Full management and authority of assigned projects includes, identifying and meeting client expectations, pricing and negotiating contracts, performing engineering services, oversight of project quality, resource identification and management, meeting project schedules and profitability goals.ย  May participate in developing and maintaining client relationships, and marketing company services.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions &ย Responsibilities:

  • Executes planning for projects, including development of the project scope, task organization, estimates of effort and other required resources, and schedules necessary to complete the project. Creates estimate of cost and budget for the project.
  • Executes internal project setup procedures in accordance with the company's policies.
  • Directs, manages and participates in the production of the project deliverables including but not limited to: preliminary studies, plans and cost estimates, definition of and oversight of design surveys, designs and plan production, project status/review meetings, specification and contract document development and production.
  • May participate in the monthly project accounting process, including review of time and expense charges to projects, timely preparation of invoicing and management of accounts receivable (A/R) and work-in-process (WIP) in accordance with the company's policies.
  • Reviews and assesses the progress and financial performance of all assigned projects on a regular and ongoing basis. Coordinates and implements changes in resource assignments, production methods, etc. to achieve optimum efficiency and profitability.ย 
  • Communicates openly and frequently with clients during the course of a project to ensure that all issues are addressed efficiently to the client's satisfaction. Prepares, conducts and documents all progress review and other meetings.
  • Conducts project closeout, including contract closeout and internal evaluation of project performance relative to the budget.
  • Understands the company's client service model and applies these principles to all interactions with clients.
  • Participates in developing a culture of discipline, where the meeting of goals and deadlines is required not only with clients but with others throughout the company. Meets all administrative requirements and requests established by the company on the dates specified (e.g., timesheet submission, invoice preparation and submission, report submission and other corporate directives, etc.)
  • Stays abreast of new engineering trends and techniques. Participates in professional organization(s) in the manager's area of expertise and/or client focus.ย  Maintains professional licensure in the states required by the company.
  • Implements divisional and company standards and company processes such as file management systems and resource management/project planning systems.
  • Develops and fosters an open environment encouraging communications among team members assigned to a project.
  • Provides information in developing strategic opportunities to senior managers.
  • May assist with developing business; develops proposals; makes client presentations; closes the sale with clients.
  • Mentors Project Managers
  • Manages all aspect of project deliverables and will assist other lower level PMs with theirs; projects are usually large in size; oversees and directs the assignments of staff assigned to the project to meet deliverables.
  • May participate in on-going client maintenance and support opportunities; makes project driven presentations to client; participates in client maintenance and relationship development; resolves client issues/concerns with the involvement of the CSM and other applicable Sr. Management.
  • May become involved in building the company's external image (serving on a board for example; participating in community activities).
  • May recommend staff resource planning and train staff.
  • May assist with accounts receivable in accordance with company policy; assists in resolving all issues.
  • May assist with the monthly project accounting process, including review of time and expense charges to projects, timely preparation of invoicing and management of work in process according to company policy.
  • Reviews personal and staff labor utilization; makes corrections.
  • Recommends sub-consultants.
  • Selects staff for project teams; provides performance feedback to direct manager of employee.ย 
  • May have direct reports and participate in the hiring of employees.
  • May act as a primary contact with State and Federal agencies and/or serve on local or state boards.

Education:ย Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field required.

Experience:

12 + years engineering experience in appropriate discipline and P.E. licensure required. Knowledge/experience of MicroStation, GIS, and related design software preferred.ย  Must obtain professional licensure in the states required by the company as soon as possible.ย

Travel Expectations:

Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of visiting other office locations, project sites, attending seminars or business meetings.ย  Minimum travel is 20% of the time depending on projects.ย  Certain positions will require more travel.ย  Travel expectations will be communicated through the employee-owner's manager, and for newly open positions, travel expectations will be reflected in the job posting announcement.ย  Driver's license with clean driving record required.
