ED/Psych - Staff Nurse-Emergency Medicine (University Campus)

Emergency Department | University Campus: The Emergency Department (ED) at the University Campus (located at 200 Hawkins Dr.) is a 57-bed department. Pediatric ED space with 13 rooms, which includes 2 dedicated trauma/resuscitation rooms and a procedural room. Main ED space includes 3 trauma/resuscitation rooms, an expanded Team Triage space, and 6 results waiting chairs. South Expansion space includes 12 enhanced multipurpose rooms and a calming room. Our ED is staffed by a multidisciplinary team which includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Paramedics, Unit Assistants, Social Work, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine providers, Pharmacy, and our research team. The University Campus ED was the recipient of an Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Lantern Award in 2025 for their collaboration and teamwork that makes a difference in the lives of patients, families, employees, and our community. We are looking for nurses with experience to help provide patient care for our behavioral health population in the Emergency Department. Apply today and be part of something extraordinary. Characteristic duties of our staff nurses include but are not limited to: Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions Percent of time: 90% Schedule example: 0700-1930, days vary dependent upon department need. Weekend and holiday rotating assignments required. Orientation duration may vary. Location: Regular salaried position is at the University Campus ED located in Iowa City, Iowa SEIU Pay Plan: https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/pay-plans/seiu-pay-plan Salary: $60,000 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate *This does not include differentials. Salary will vary based on years of experience and percent of effort.* Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours. Qualifications

Education Required: An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required. Licensure/Certification Requirements: License to practice nursing in the state of Iowa required by date of hire. Experience Requirements: Minimum of six months ED, or critical care (ICU, telemetry inpatient) nursing experience, or completion of senior internship/preceptorship or completion of at least 100 clinical hours in an ED, ICU, intermediate area (Burn Unit, Intermediate Units). Completion of senior internship/preceptorship or completion of at least 100 clinic hours on an inpatient unit (med/surg or step-down unit) or inpatient psychiatric unit. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage critically-ill patient population within highly functioning unit/department Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions Successful history in building/facilitating interpersonal relationships involving patients, families, colleagues, and student-learners Excellent written and verbal communication skills General proficiency with computers Desired Qualifications: Minimum of two years of ED or critical care experience (within the last 6 months) Experience in behavioral health Experience utilizing electronic medical records Knowledge of University policies and procedures Please attach a resume as part of the application process.
