Job description

Contract • Fully Remote • ASAP Start • US Citizens & GC Holders Only

Pay Rate: $70–85/hr W2 | Weekly Pay | 12+ Month Contract

Overview

We are placing a Senior Infrastructure Migration Project Manager on a long-term contract engagement supporting a Fortune-class financial services organization undergoing one of the largest VMware ESXi to Nutanix AHV migrations in the industry. The program spans approximately 3,000 production virtual machines across 58 migration waves, giving the right PM real runway, real ownership, and real executive visibility.

This is a fully remote, hands-on program leadership role. You will run the wave-based migration factory — driving cadence, tracking risks, managing dependencies, coordinating cutovers, and delivering executive-level reporting to senior stakeholders. Nutanix experience is not required, but heavy enterprise virtualization or datacenter migration PM experience is.

What You Will Do

  • Own the end-to-end project plan, schedule, and delivery execution across 58 migration waves
  • Drive the RAID log — risks, actions, issues, decisions — with rigor and transparency
  • Coordinate directly with Migration Engineers, application owners, Nutanix Professional Services, and the client PMO
  • Manage scope, change control, and dependencies across engineering, security, network, and application teams
  • Run pre-cutover readiness reviews, wave kickoffs, and post-cutover retrospectives
  • Own weekly status reporting, steering committee prep, and executive-level communications
  • Coordinate scheduled off-hours and weekend cutover windows in alignment with client-approved change schedules
  • Contribute to per-wave runbook governance and drive lessons learned into future waves

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of technical project management experience with a focus on enterprise infrastructure or datacenter migrations
  • Proven track record leading large-scale virtualization or datacenter migration programs — 1,000+ endpoints/VMs
  • Deep working understanding of VMware vSphere/ESXi environments — enough to speak the language with engineers and challenge estimates
  • Experience running wave-based migration programs with published cadences, RAID logs, and executive dashboards
  • Strong scope, risk, change control, and dependency management discipline
  • Experience partnering with cutover windows, change advisory boards, and off-hours execution
  • Executive-level reporting and stakeholder communication track record
  • PMP or equivalent project certification strongly preferred
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident — no sponsorship available

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nutanix, VCP-DCV, or other virtualization platform certification
  • Experience migrating regulated workloads (financial services, insurance, healthcare) under strict change management requirements
  • Experience with HCI platforms — Nutanix, VxRail, Cisco HyperFlex, or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Nutanix Move, VMware HCX, or similar migration tooling
  • Experience contributing to PMO-driven engagements with formal wave management and steering committee reporting
  • Experience with backup platforms commonly used alongside HCI environments (HYCU, Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik)

Compensation & Benefits

  • $70–85/hr W2, paid weekly
  • Medical coverage: PPO and HMO options available
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • Long-term engagement — real runway, not a short-term gig

Important Details

  • Fully remote
  • 12+ month contract
  • Off-hours and weekend cutover work required during scheduled change windows
  • Environment is a Fortune-class financial services organization
