Location: This role is based out of our Grafton, WI office
Project Coverage: Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay metro areas

Position Overview

We are seeking an HVAC Design Engineer who will play a key role in the design, coordination, and execution of HVAC systems for commercial, multifamily, and municipal projects. This position is ideal for a motivated professional with 2–5 years of experience who is eager to expand their technical expertise within a rapidly scaling organization.

The HVAC Design Engineer will collaborate closely with Project Managers, internal engineering staff, field teams, and clients to develop practical, efficient, and code-compliant HVAC system designs.

Responsibilities
  • Design HVAC systems including load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping layouts
  • Develop construction documents, drawings, and specifications
  • Perform energy calculations and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other trades
  • Support design-build and plan-spec projects from concept through construction
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical input
  • Review submittals and assist with RFI responses
  • Conduct site visits as needed to verify field conditions and support project teams
  • Contribute to value engineering and cost-optimization efforts
  • Assist in developing internal engineering standards and best practices
  • Train junior engineers and/or interns

Required Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field
  • 2–5 years of HVAC design experience
  • Current PE certification or a desire to obtain PE certification
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, load calculations, and applicable mechanical codes
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical construction practices
  • Experience with commercial, K–12, municipal, or hospitality projects
  • Experience in multifamily projects preferred
  • Experience with public-sector and prevailing wage projects
  • Design-build or design-assist experience
  • PMP, LEED, or similar certifications
  • Familiarity with Wisconsin and Florida codes is a plus
