Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Human Resources Manager to lead key HR operations, employee relations, compliance, talent management, and organizational initiatives. This role will have significant responsibility for maintaining effective HR internal controls and supporting Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance requirements related to payroll, employee data, system access, compensation, and other human capital processes.

The ideal candidate has broad Human Resources leadership experience combined with a strong understanding of SOX controls, audit requirements, HRIS processes, and compliance within a publicly traded or highly regulated organization. This individual will partner closely with Finance, Internal Audit, Legal, Payroll, and business leadership to ensure HR processes are efficient, compliant, and aligned with organizational objectives.


Key Responsibilities

Human Resources Leadership

  • Lead and manage day-to-day Human Resources operations and programs
  • Partner with senior leadership and department managers on workforce planning, employee relations, and organizational initiatives
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers regarding employee performance, policies, and HR best practices
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures
  • Lead and mentor Human Resources team members and support their professional development

SOX Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Manage and support HR-related Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls and compliance requirements
  • Maintain documentation of HR processes, controls, and standard operating procedures
  • Perform and document periodic control activities related to employee data, payroll changes, compensation, terminations, and system access
  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and approval processes are maintained within HR systems and workflows
  • Partner with Internal Audit, Finance, Payroll, and IT to support SOX testing and remediation activities
  • Coordinate documentation and evidence requests for internal and external auditors
  • Identify control deficiencies and implement corrective action plans
  • Support annual risk assessments and reviews of HR-related internal controls

HRIS & Employee Data Management

  • Oversee the integrity and accuracy of employee data within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
  • Ensure employee changes, including new hires, terminations, compensation adjustments, and transfers, are properly authorized and documented
  • Manage HR system access and periodically review user permissions in accordance with internal control requirements
  • Conduct HR data audits and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Partner with Payroll and Finance to resolve employee data and payroll discrepancies

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a senior HR resource for complex employee relations matters
  • Conduct workplace investigations and provide recommendations to leadership
  • Coach managers on performance management, corrective action, and employee development
  • Ensure employee relations matters are managed consistently and in accordance with company policies and employment laws
  • Identify employee trends and recommend proactive solutions

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Partner with leadership to identify workforce and talent needs
  • Oversee recruiting and hiring processes for key positions
  • Support succession planning and talent development initiatives
  • Ensure hiring and onboarding processes follow established internal controls and approval procedures

Compensation & Payroll Support

  • Partner with Finance and Payroll to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee compensation changes
  • Review compensation approvals and supporting documentation
  • Support annual merit, bonus, and incentive compensation processes
  • Ensure compensation changes comply with established approval matrices and SOX control requirements
  • Assist with payroll audits and employee data reconciliations

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain HR policies, employee handbooks, and compliance documentation
  • Support regulatory and internal compliance audits
  • Monitor changes in employment regulations and recommend policy or process updates
  • Maintain confidential employee information and ensure appropriate data privacy practices

Employee Engagement & Organizational Development

  • Develop and support employee engagement and retention initiatives
  • Partner with leadership to improve organizational effectiveness and workplace culture
  • Analyze employee feedback and HR metrics to identify trends and opportunities
  • Support leadership development, performance management, and employee recognition programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience
  • 3+ years of Human Resources management or leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting SOX compliance and HR internal controls
  • Experience working within a publicly traded or SOX-compliant organization strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HR operations, employee relations, payroll processes, and employment laws
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits
  • Strong HRIS experience and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
