A&E + SMA Design is looking for a Senior Healthcare Planner with unlimited creativity and determination to make a difference to join our team of innovators.   • Master’s Degree in Architecture
  • LEED AP and Registered Architect (or in process) preferred
  • Ideal candidate has at least 15 years of experience working in an architecture firm or in healthcare architecture
  • A focus or specialty in healthcare design, with preference to candidates with a healthcare-specific college degree
  • Advanced knowledge of current healthcare planning and programming concepts including patient safety, evidence-based design principles, and general industry benchmarks
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam
  • Medical space planning, architectural design and construction documents acumen
  • Working understanding of design constructability as well as a solid understanding of healthcare architecture
  • Experience leading user group meetings and working with hospital senior leadership
  • Advanced understanding of the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) for healthcare architecture, NFPA 99, and all applicable healthcare building codes
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple simultaneous projects
  • Understands the fundamental relationships and contractual obligations between the Architect, Consultants, Owner and Contractor
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentation materials
  • Ability to communicate within a creative team environment
  • Complex problem-solving and critical thinking abilities are essential

A day in the life.

  • Medical space planning, including research on best practices and future practices of healthcare services
  • Provide overall project design and development process to ensure that construction documents conform with A&E + SMA Design's agreement with the client
  • Provide technical expertise to generate documents for healthcare projects ranging in size and scope
  • Work with partners and project managers on all project efforts, both administrative and technical, to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects
  • Provide clear team leadership and mentorship. Oversee and provide regular, timely direction to project team members, with an emphasis for fostering professional growth and strengthening team capabilities
  • Ensure quality control on all deliverables
  • May estimate fees, determine scope of work, and prepares proposals and contracts for partner or associate partner review
  • Serve as the primary consultant liaison and a secondary client liaison to complete projects on schedule, within budget, and with maximum client satisfaction
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary design team to understand needs of A&E +SMA Design’s diverse client base and determine innovative, successful environmental graphic solutions
  • Coordinate medical equipment with A&E + SMA’s clients and/or their vendors when needed to ensure fully synchronized design
  • Support the design director and collaborate with a team of designers, architects and fabricators
