Interim Global Accounts Payable Manager

Location: Hybrid/Remote - Northwest of Boston

Compensation: Competitive Hourly Rate

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Interim Global Accounts Payable Manager to lead and optimize the global accounts payable function during a critical period of growth and transformation. This individual will oversee AP operations across multiple international entities, ensure timely and accurate payment processing, strengthen internal controls, and partner with finance leadership to drive process improvements and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong global AP experience, a continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day global accounts payable operations across multiple domestic and international locations.
  • Manage and develop AP staff, including direct supervision, training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, employee expenses, payment runs, and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, internal controls, audit requirements, and applicable domestic and international regulations.
  • Partner with Treasury, Procurement, FP&A, and Accounting teams to improve cash flow forecasting and payment strategies.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close activities related to accounts payable and accrued liabilities.
  • Monitor AP aging, vendor relationships, and issue resolution to maintain strong supplier partnerships.
  • Evaluate, design, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and accuracy.
  • Support ERP implementations, system upgrades, and AP automation initiatives.
  • Analyze AP metrics and KPIs, providing reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Assist with external audits and ensure proper documentation and compliance standards are maintained.
  • Drive standardization of processes across global locations while addressing local business requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive Accounts Payable experience, including leadership of large or global AP teams.
  • Strong understanding of global AP operations, vendor management, and financial controls.
  • Experience supporting multinational organizations with multiple entities and currencies.
  • ERP experience required; experience with SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Proven track record leading process improvement, automation, and transformation initiatives.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organization.
  • Advanced Excel and reporting skills.
  • Ability to quickly assess processes, identify gaps, and implement practical solutions.
Preferred Experience
  • Shared services or global business services environment.
  • AP automation platforms such as Coupa, Concur, Basware, Ariba, or Tipalti.
  • Experience in public company, life sciences, technology, manufacturing, or multinational environments.
