What is a Senior GBU Financial Life?

A Senior GBU Financial Life is typically a senior-level professional responsible for overseeing financial planning, analysis, and strategic decision-making within a Global Business Unit (GBU) of a large organization. Their role involves managing budgets, forecasting financial performance, and supporting executive management with data-driven insights to drive business growth. They often collaborate with various departments to ensure financial objectives align with business goals and may also be involved in risk management and compliance activities. This position requires strong analytical skills, experience in finance or accounting, and the ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

What are some common challenges faced by Senior GBU Financial Life professionals when managing multiple business units' financial strategies?

Senior GBU Financial Life professionals often oversee the financial performance and strategy of several business units simultaneously, which can present challenges such as aligning diverse financial goals, managing competing priorities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards across different regions. Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams are crucial to balancing these demands. Additionally, adapting to rapidly changing market conditions and integrating new technologies into financial processes are typical aspects that require strong leadership and analytical skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior GBU Financial Life, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior GBU Financial Life professional, you need extensive experience in financial analysis, strategic planning, and a deep understanding of business unit operations, often supported by a degree in finance or accounting and several years of relevant work experience. Proficiency with advanced financial modeling tools, ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, and industry-specific reporting software is typically required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help drive cross-functional collaboration and effective decision-making. These capabilities are crucial for delivering actionable insights, optimizing performance, and supporting the organization's overall financial health.

Job description

Business Strategy Principal - HP Solutions Strategy

Description -

The Opportunity

Join HP's high-impact, high-visibility HP Solutions Strategy team and help shape the future of HP Solutions across hardware, software, services, AI infrastructure, and emerging growth areas. This team partners closely with senior HPS leaders to define long-term direction, medium-term strategic priorities, and near-term business choices that influence portfolio strategy, planning, investment priorities, and growth opportunities.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly analytical, results-oriented strategy leader who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys solving complex business problems, and wants to make a visible impact at scale. In this role, you will help translate market, customer, technology, and financial insights into clear strategic choices-especially across Advanced Compute Solutions, Edge AI, and integrated business planning.
You will work across executive leaders, GBU teams, finance, category, and cross-functional partners to develop insight-driven recommendations grounded in rigorous analysis and compelling strategic narratives. The role combines strategic problem solving with planning rigor, business case development, and executive support on high-priority deliverables including board and leadership reviews.
If you are energized by strategic problem solving, cross-functional collaboration, and building what is next, we would love to hear from you.
Responsibilities

  • Support the Advanced Compute Solutions (ACS) strategy and integrated planning process annually, partnering with ACS GBU teams, Finance, and category teams to shape long-range financial planning inputs, strategic assumptions, investment choices, and growth ambition.
  • Develop strategic analyses and insights related to Advanced Compute Solutions, including market trends, customer needs, competitive dynamics, and growth opportunities across the HPS portfolio.
  • Support Edge AI strategy, roadmap, and business planning by building actionable insights such as market sizing, competitive analysis, strategic trade-off assessments, and long-term opportunity framing.
  • Bring outside-in perspective on the broader AI compute and silicon ecosystem (e.g., server/infrastructure vendors, semiconductor providers, hyperscalers) to inform HP's Edge AI and Advanced Compute positioning.
  • Partner with Finance to support investment sizing and capital allocation submissions, ensuring recommendations are grounded in business impact, financial rigor, and alignment to HPS priorities.
  • Drive alignment of long-term strategy across divisions including Retail, Workforce Experience Platform, and Services to ensure a cohesive point of view on Edge AI and related growth bets.
  • Support ad hoc HPS strategy deliverables, including board, FIT, ELT, and other executive-level materials, bringing a clear point of view from the ACS and workstations perspective.
  • Partner with Corporate Strategy and other cross-functional stakeholders on broader projects that inform enterprise strategy, planning, and leadership decision-making.
  • Structure analytical approaches, project plans, and executive-ready storylines to solve complex and ambiguous business problems with speed and rigor.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans and follow-through, helping connect strategy, planning, and execution across the businesses supported.
  • Contribute to team development by identifying growth opportunities, assigning stretch work that builds strategic capability, and connecting team members with mentors and coaches to support their career goals.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Exceptional analytical thinking, structured problem solving, and hypothesis-driven decision-making skills.
  • Ability to break down ambiguous issues into clear frameworks, actionable insights, and practical recommendations.
  • Strong business acumen with experience assessing markets, competitive dynamics, customer needs, and business model implications in technology, solutions, or services environments.
  • Experience building financial models, long-range plans, business cases, forecasts, and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making and investment prioritization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create concise, compelling, executive-ready presentations and narratives for board and senior leadership audiences.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple high-visibility workstreams.
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate across senior stakeholders, GBU teams, Finance, category teams, and global cross-functional partners.
  • Curiosity, learning agility, and comfort working in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
  • Ability to connect technology, customer, market, and financial insights to strategic choices across hardware, software, services, and Edge AI growth areas.
  • High degree of ownership, sound judgment, and commitment to delivering high-quality work while helping elevate team capability.
  • Familiarity with server, AI infrastructure, or compute ecosystem dynamics (e.g., accelerated computing, edge inference, semiconductor/OEM partnerships) is a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Four-year or Graduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or another related discipline, or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
  • Typically 8-10+ years of experience in corporate strategy, strategic planning, business strategy, management consulting, product strategy, product management, platform strategy or a related field.
  • Experience in top-tier consulting, corporate strategy, or a technology/product organization with strong analytical rigor, a similarly rigorous strategy environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing strategic recommendations, long-range plans, business cases, and executive communications for senior leaders.
  • Experience working in technology, hardware, AI infrastructure, semiconductor, or server/compute, software, services, AI, or adjacent industries is strongly preferred.
  • MBA or other advanced degree is a plus.
