Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Associate Attorney
Location: Portland, ME

Direct Counsel is seeking a Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Associate with 1–3 years of experience to join a growing practice in Portland, Maine. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated restructuring and bankruptcy matters as part of a premier global platform.

Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in restructuring, insolvency, and bankruptcy matters.

  • Assist with Chapter 11 proceedings and related litigation.

  • Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, and other court filings.

  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategy.

  • Work closely with partners and senior attorneys on complex financial restructurings.

  • Provide responsive and strategic client service in high-stakes matters.

Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of restructuring, insolvency, or bankruptcy experience.

  • Strong academic credentials.

  • Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage responsibilities independently while collaborating within a team environment.

  • Bankruptcy judicial clerkship is a plus (but not required).

  • Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Maine.
